When I signed up, I was receiving 15 new messages per day. It's not that uncommon in my opinion. I'm extremely picky when it comes to meeting women though, because I think dating is a pain in the ass.. so I cancel a lot and just don't always feel like going out.
I don't like dating either it's a very turbulent process. That said I am all up for a casual hookup and 15 messages per day seems awesome. How do you look on the looks scale? What is your race, height etc etc I think all these matter a lot too.
i'm pretty sure you are just looking for an excuse to why you can't get women.

I created a fake POF profile. A guy with a six pack, a picture of a mercedes, and a bunch of selfies.
Me header reads: "Men have obligations, women have options"
Said I "make a lot of money" and I "work hard and play hard." I like to hit up bars, and I like older women.
Been on for 30 minutes, here is what I found:
-I can message a girl out of the blue and say "whats your number?" and they give it to me
-I can message a girl and say "wanna hang out tonight?" and they say sure
-I have 2 girls sending my risque pictures already
Men (and probably women) who are looking for love on POF. I urge you to stop.
These women sending me sexually explicit messages are college educated, sometimes with Masters degrees. they have no provocative pics, and yet, they are sluts. Unbelieveable, can't trust anyone these days.
Trashiness and esteem issues are not determined by education and career.
Trust me one of those women esp. the school teacher is anything but trashy and low self-esteem. She's a very decent girl with an athletic background having represented her university in track, comes from a very good family etc etc. The other girl is a devout Catholic girl who's very much into church and community involvement. They are anything but trashy, however when they saw my friend's pictures online they just went bonkers trying to meet him and hangout with him.

It wasn't revealing, because I think it's all normal. I have always said men and women are no different. However, I'm not the idiot here saying all men and women are trash and whores. That's you.
As I said, I saw all this behavior on my own profile that I made with my own normal pictures wearing a sweater and khaki pants.
