We were already planning in downgrading our outdoor decorations as I wasn’t comfortable with my husband being up on a ladder. He passed in June so I will press my willing nephew into service to help with minimal outdoor lights and to help with the tree.
We’ve always done mantle decorations and I put up past art projects our children did in preschool and elementary school. I don’t believe at all in the alleged reason for the season but I agree with the sentiment of peace and pausing to enjoy family and friends. Thanksgiving is more my holiday.
We have no children and no family in the area that visits any longer. I always decorated for all the holidays but it seems silly now. Do you still decorate?
I am like you. I hardly bother with much these days. I put a wreath on the door, and put up a small tree, most years. If I don’t put up a tree, I feel a bit bad about it.
wife decorates every damn month. spring, summer, fall, winter, 4th, easter, president day, xmas, Halloween, she has 8 foot long 7 foot rack with boxes for every season and not counting the crap in the attic! i ***** but its kinda cool when the grandkids come over and see all the changes every other week!

I have wreaths and yard flags for every occasion (everything from St Patrick's Day to Mardi Gras to Mother's Day) and I have indoor decorations for the main holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter). I also line our walkway with small flags on Memorial Day and the 4th of July. Other than Christmas, it takes maybe 5 or 10 minutes to decorate for the other holidays. Change out the wreath and yard flag. Set the ceramic turkey on the hutch along with the fall table decor or put out the bunnies, easter baskets and pastel tablecloth.
Christmas is more extensive. But we have always decorated for Christmas. We did so well before we had kids, we did so once we became parents and we will continue to do so once the kids have left the nest.
I can absolutely see enjoying having the grandkids over to see all of the decorations. Kids love holiday magic and traditions.

Oh, yes. One of the things that appeals me about retiring to a place like The Villages is that they have all sorts of holiday community events that you can attend without having to worry about hosting, yourself.

I got rid of my 4ft tree and most of my decorations and wrapping paper. I have a few sentimental decorations, probably won't put them out though.. I live in NC, they decorate for everything, I mean, dishes, table cloths, decorations, every single holiday. I just can't.

If I had small grandkids, I would decorate. But she's 12 and lives in CA and no one wants to travel on the holidays.
