I have to be honest, (knock wood!) my wife and I are doing pretty well job wise....her brother had been in Orlando for 20+ years, lost his job, and after a year of looking in Florida found a job in Providence, of all places.
OTOH I have friends here who have experienced stretches of unemployment lasting 2 years or more...and some are experiencing underemployment....
They say it's a recession when your neighbor loses her job. it's a depression when you lose yours.
I plan on going back to NH when my youngest finishes high school. Closer to mountains, better gun laws, better skiing.
I'm thinking about moving out of RI, because there's simply
more bang for your buck in other places. Home and land values here
are inflated. I've done all there is and was to do here in the last 40 yrs
anyway.
We left over 20 years ago but still visit regularly (wife and daughters spend the summers in RI). I see alot of the vibrancy gone along with an awful lot of industry in the past 20 years. Many friends and family are working and doing okay but the cost to live in RI seems to be increasing yearly along with their taxes. RI will always be our true home as it is where our hearts are, but unfortunately our quality of life would change financially if we were to move back. RI has a lot ot offer and hopefully the future will be brighter for the state!
The vibrancy in Providence has done nothing but increase in the past 20 years. It's far more vibrant now than it was 20 years ago.
