Drew's American- service was very good, friendly owner, matzo ball soup was good, a seafood pasta was flavorless w/ undercooked shrimp, pastrami & corned beef were decent, and the wine list was average. I'd go back for the soup or to try their pizza, but the rest no thanks.

Checked out the Boiler House in the Pearl with my lady this Friday. It was pretty packed at 9pm, and the space looked nice, although "live music" seven nights a week sounds like a horrible idea for this kind of restaurant. (It was two guys playing acoustic covers, country and otherwise.) I'm a vegetarian, and they had some great options. We had a truly delicious eggplant concoction with some superb bread, as well as slices of the same bread topped with a white bean cassoulet and grilled kale. Both were really great. But, the supposed belle of the ball--tofu ratatoille skewers--was more or less tasteless. We did forgo some other attractive options, though, so we'll return.

One important note: this place has the most insane beer prices I've ever seen. $5 for a can of Lone Star? $6 or $7, and even up to $16, for cans or bottles of everything else? WAY too expensive. Although, given the crowd and the bottles of wine that were freely flowing, maybe they know what they're doing. They certainly made many thousands of dollars the night we were there.

We'll be back, but we'll make some wiser choices.

Is it true that taco cabana now brings your food out to you and also gives you free chips and salsa and even also refills drinks and throws your trash away?? That's what I'm hearing is happening at some of them now like in new braunfels and up in DFW area. Is this true?? Haven't been in awhile.

No info on the questions you pose, but did stop by a TC for the first time in a LONG time the other day, and they do offer a 20% military discount!!! With this being military city USA...thought some might find that good news!

My sister and I stopped at Bangkok 54 on Nacodoches and 410 yesterday after running an errand at Ft. Sam. We missed the lunch by like 5 minutes. The dinner was good but a bit more expensive than I would have liked. We ended up spending like $30 on two people whereas the same amount of food (on the dinner menu) would be about $25 at Thai Bistro on De Zavala. Not complaining, just making a comparison. $5 is $5 is $5.

We ate at the TC the other night on Stone Oak Parkway, and yes, they did bring it out to us. (This also happened when I ate at one in Bastrop in August). As for the chips, didn't see any, and we threw our own trash out, as usual. But, every TC I have gone to has the drink station on the floor, anyway.

Wife went to the Menger Hotel for the lunch buffet Thursday. Said it was horrible. They had 2 meats, fish and pork, only there wasn't any fish and the pork was dry. Rounded out with potato salad, green beans, and a pasta salad were the only options. For the 17 bucks it cost, she won't be back. I can only hope any tourists weren't there for this black eye to San Antonio.

El Bucanero on Blanco Rd. Place was packed (as usual). Yummy food, disorganized service...forgivable when it's yummy food. You just have to go with the understanding that 1) you may not get your shrimp cocktail before your entree, and 2) not everyone in your party will get their food at the same time.
