Wings and Rings in Del Rio, on our way back from Seminole Canyon State Park this past Sunday. Son had a craving for wings or chicken fried steak, so we saw this place and pulled in. Our waiter told us their wings are HUGE with a lot of meat on them, as did their menu. We decided (well, HE decided) on the 50 wings for $38.99 , and an order of fries and onion rings. I figured we would take the leftovers home, since there is no way I can eat 25 wings. (son can...growing boy) . Well, they must have little chickens in Del Rio, because these were the littlest chicken wings I've ever seen in my life! May have been hummingbird wings for all I know. Ended up spending around 72 bucks for the midget wings, fries, rings, 2 teas and tip. Not impressed, won't be back.

Ate at Bliss in Southtown on Saturday night for the first time. Food was excellent, service was good and portions were a bit on the small side, but at least I didn't leave feeling stuffed. Prices were a bit high in comparison to the portion sizes, but the food was worth it. Would definitely go back.

Auden's kitchen for Sunday brunch and bottomless mimosas. Great duck dish, hamburger and fried egg sandwich - but it was painful waiting for the sloooooow refills on the mimosas.

We had Sunday brunch at Toast this past weekend. I had the maple glazed pork tenderloin atop a bed of scrambled eggs. The bottomless mimosas (they sit a craft full on the table) were always full and the meal extremely tasty.

Boardwalk Bistro. Hubby got the Juicy Lucy and it was good, but not very juicy...the roll was delicious, he said. I wonder if they make their own breads. I got lovely chicken salad in an avocado half, along with a martini glass filled with the most delicious chicken poblano soup. I crave that soup now! mmmm! The salad was good, but very onion-y.

If you're hankering for some comforting cheesy bready goodness, my daughter had the 3 cheese & avocado croissant...uh...*swoon* yeah. Yummy!

Downside? Sloooooooow service. Very nice, but slow.

Piattis - decent pasta and dessert. Was it supremely better than say - Milano's or Cafe Milano - no. But it wasn't bad.

First visit to El Jarro de Arturo at 281 and Bitters. I liked my Carne Asada. Mrs. Bo's combo plate was just OK.

Chips and salsa were underflavored. Chips seemed kind of stale. Salsa seemed very fresh, but heavy on the tomatoes and a bit on the dry side (not enough liquid). Tortillas were also kinda dry.

At $20/person, I was underwhelmed. It always seems to be very crowded, so my opinion of 2 out 5 stars must be in the minority. It probably would all have tasted better washed down with a margarita, but we stuck with water and unsweet tea. A big plus was the attentive service on refilling my tea glass. It may have helped that we were seated close to the refill pitchers.

I've eaten twice this week at "The Russian House" at 307 East 5th Street in Austin. It's the first Russian restaurant that I've found in Central Texas. They have an eclectic (& very stereotypically Russian) menu that consists of meats, fish, Russian dishes, blinis (Russian crepes) and plenty of vodka. Lots & lots of vodka. And for the beer-o-philes (I forgot the version of oenophile for beer) they have the gamut of Russian Baltika beers.

The food was, in short, delicious. Just like Babushka makes, without the dose of idiosyncratic love that Babushka provides. The staff is Ukrainian and Russian & everyone speaks the language, naturally. I had a lot of fun with that last part. Should've gotten some phone numbers, as the girls are very good-looking.

As for the decor, it is kitschy, but in a good way. Portraits from the Russian Empire and Soviet times mixed in with all sorts of propaganda posters & toys from the Soviet Era made for a very warm atmosphere for me and a museum-like atmosphere for other guests who don't really have personal ties to Russia.

All in all, I give it a 9 out of 10. 10/10 for food, 8/10 for atmosphere & 5/10 for parking, although that last one is completely irrelevant.

Check it out if you ever get a chance! If you don't understand one of the posters, tell me where in the restaurant you saw it & I'll probably remember it! Plus, my friends took a bunch of pictures, hahaha.
