Your speaks to a huge problem in people these days. You are ASSuming the reason why someone is parking in the street.

Do your research before you move into an area and you should be fine.

My area has very minimal parking on the street.

See, the problem is...we have never had to do research on this issue before. The other neighborhoods and states we have lived in did not have this problem. Not in a nice neighborhood, anyway.
It’s more than obvious WHY they are parking on the streets. All it takes is seeing their garage door up for the day, or realizing they have four generations piled in the house.

Of the places I've lived, San Antonio seems pretty unique in that there are not a lot of basements in the houses.
As a result, people don't have that option to store all their crap that they don't really use, but don't want to throw away.
So, we have lots of people storing junk in the garage instead of cars, and also a million different storage places around the city.

Storing stuff in the garage isn't really the issue as long you can still park on the driveway but most new homes being built these days have narrow driveways and when you combine that with families plus aunt, uncle, cousin, etc....living in these homes...the narrow driveways of these newer homes can't support all these cars.

It is not an issue in my neighborhood fortunately and we don't even have a mandatory HOA. HOA are not the answer to solving this.

I agree, most newer spec home designs (at least in this region) place the double garage in front of the house, with a driveway just one vehicle deep on each side. With no basement, and attics that aren't suitable for storage, short of putting a storage building in the back yard, or renting a storage unit, that leaves the garage. So more than two vehicles in the household and/or visitors are going to have to park on the street.

I'm in an older neighborhood with no HOA, but residents parking on the street doesn't seem to be a problem. But then our driveways are double-wide and usually at least two vehicles deep, as they were still placing garages beside the house instead of in front, back then.

Don't paint with such a broad brush. The HOA is the only answer for this issue in a gated neighborhood, with private streets owned by the HOA. The city won't get involved in those situations.

Fair enough. A lot of us don't live in gated communities such as myself and those that do I would assume have more pride to avoid this issue among each other.

My comment was probably a bit too broad but I still stand by it for the most part.

I hear you!! We have newer neighbors that allow their dogs to bark all day and night. And the newest renters on our street seems to think we all like to hear his stupid bass coming from his garage everyday evening for hours.. We have called the cops too many times to count, pretty sick of their inconsideration.

Asking for advice:
Our neighbors have a LOT of vehicles. They park 4 in the driveway and 3 on the street. Our house was vacant for a long time before we moved in and they got accustomed to parking in front of our house. When we moved in and I started parking there, they would literally wait until I went to the store and move a car into that spot.
We have a motorcycle in the garage, two cars in the driveway and MY car on the street for a specific reason. Our driveway is at a STEEP angle and I had back surgery a year ago because of degeneration from Lupus. I can't get in and out of the car at that incline!
We've asked nicely but the one girl is a REAL snot about it! In fact, she just left her car there for four days straight!
Any advice on dealing with them?
