Because San Jose is only big in population. I would not count San Jose as a "big" city.

New York, LA, Chicago, Miami those are big cities.

San Jose is California's Orlando. Only those who have been to both will understand.

Orlando is a world tech center?

no. no. no. i meant that San Jose (down town is what I am focusing on) is not really a big city (not speaking of population here b/c it has one of the biggest populations in the US and it is growing).

SJ is full of very mundane little shops and eateries and it is not very pretty or interesting. Don't get me wrong, they do have some ok cool stuff going on once in a while, But I would never liken San Jose to New York City, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles in terms of quality entertainment. I would consider San Francisco more of a "big city" even tho it has a smaller population and a smaller geographic area than the aforementioned cities.

I was just merely speaking of SJ's aesthetics not it's industry, demographics, or geography. It is nothing like Orlando in those aspects.

man, you people are so snarky.

Ha. You're out of your mind. To each his own, but your SJ homerism is really showing.

SF better emulates east coast aesthetics, which is where the self-proclaimed cultured class take their cues. LA's glory is derived from being simply massive, and their entertainment offerings are still spread out and car-reliant.

It's all a debate for college-educated white people to feel more important than they (we) are.

Bobby's shoulder chip sometimes has a mind of its own. OAK and SJ (with Sac) are in the same boat, so long as you resist the migratory transformation into Frisco Jr. I already see some fellating of startup incubators and boasting about obscene rents, as if that's a point of pride.

I mean SJ has definitely gotten nicer over the years and isn't dealing with the same issues that Oakland is trying to overcome (crime, hyper gentrification), but to dismiss Oakland as irrelevant is myopic. It's SF-east at this point, and with Uber and other tech companies moving, it's only becoming more integrated with the City. Unlike SJ, it already had a unique urban flavor of its own for the past several decades, and its no longer a secret how cool parts of it are to outsiders. It'll never be the tourist destination that SF, but there's plenty to do, and it's a quick BART or Ferry ride across the Bay. And LMAO at Fremont becoming the third major destination of the Bay Area. That's rich.

You're right, San Jose doesn't emulate East Coast aesthetics, with their density and subways. But it's similar to LA in terms of being a sprawl of connected suburban neighborhoods and strip malls, where you have to drive everywhere. Shame that SJ hasn't come to its own in terms of having a distinct flavor or vibe- for some reason, other West Coast cities like Seattle or Portland have been able to do that.

Having one distinct flavor/vibe is quite limiting. Portland may be the coolest **** if you're in the target demo, but it's a one-dimensional parody to anyone else. I'd like for SJ to avoid that, which is easier because it's not ethnically homogeneous.
