The bottom line is that the customer is always right; anyone who works in retail or deals with customers of any kind knows that. That maxim doesn't mean that customers have the right to be rude, but many customers believe that they do have that right.
No, they're not always right. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Here are some to add to the list...
1.WATCH YOUR KIDS, DON'T LET THEM RUN WILD THROUGH THE STORE!
2.take your clothes out of the fitting room after you've tried them on..and for goodness sake if you do leave them in there, don't take a CRAP on them. you'd be surprised how often that happens.
3. Don't leave your drinks in the store for someone to pick up or clean up the spill.. you brought it in, so take it back out!!
I can't believe #2 (ack, hate even wording it that way) - just too disgusting.
I agree w/don't leave your trash, amazing how many McDonald's bags/wrappers, almost empty bottles of water, soda, etc. - people just stick them "wherever".
1: Dont purposely ruin the store's public restroom ( i.e smear crap all over the walls, toilet seat, floor, etc)
2. Dont assume instantly that a paper towel dispenser is empty just because you cant see paper towels. Check the sides...usually it will show you if its jammed, empty, or not.
3. Dont let your kid shriek (sp?) in my ear and then say " Isnt he just precious?"
You are NOT going to get an affirmative answer if you do.
One thing jluke should do for his/herself is get over the idea that customers should do any part of her job and keep the frustration and anger aimed at management where it obviously belongs.
Stores that offer services and then understaff so they can't provide them is not a customer responsibility.Doing part of the work is where stores like Aldi's comes in....you don't get full service and you pay less......by "agreement".
What's hard to understand is why a store so badly managed has enough business to have long lines.
Why is it the customer's responsibility to help do things the store should do?
What ?
Some stores OFFER this kind of service....but don't HAVE to.
Your items, your groceries = your responsibility (to be correct). You paid for the items.....they become yours.
Why SHOULD the store offer bagging and take-out services (or HAVE to) ?
I am from Germany, and there, you bag your own, you pay for plastic bags and you carry them out yourself.
If you can't carry much, or not willing to lug them out...just buy less.
But here in the US.....huh......we "trained" people to become lazy, and to "expect" and "demand", and sometimes to treat Retail clerks like servants.
All that staff needed to "kiss butt" and make a customer happy (or lazier, perhaps ???) comes with a price tag, reflecting in grocery prices.
So, you as a customer pay MORE for groceries, because they are getting bagged and taken out to your car.
Reality check is needed desperately.
Now....where's that water melon ????

You hit the nail right on the head. Mind you...Im rather glad I m not in Germany..I might not have a job if their methods applied here!
But what you say is very much the truth.

THis is why customers think there entitled to treat and disrespect workers any kind of way. btw,it's he...not she.

No....customers that treat workers badly are simply ill-bred nasty people .
If you treat customers badly that would be the only excuse for getting less than respectful treatment.
The lack of volume of business the store does should be the result of bad management....not the abuse of it's employees.
