Confederate Memorial Day was the only Memorial Day until northerners realized it was a good idea. Each state had their own day they celebrated. It's become national but we get to celebrate it twice because it was our idea.

Google it yourself. You won't because you'd rather keep your head in the sand.

Because the entire state participated in a local newspaper poll in a town popular with northern retirees? Um...ok

I swear I'm not trying to derail this thread but correct me if I'm wrong but confederate memorial day was passed as a state holiday in recent history and was not a historically a state government holiday.

My impression is that the majority do want it down, but our elected officials are against it. Like our governor.

South Carolina capitol's Confederate flag is campaign issue - Post and Courier
Yet you moved down here thinking you were somehow in the majority but you don't agree with anything a popularly elected official says. Were you under the impression this was a blue state? That answers a lot.

That is because it doesn't exist.

If y'all are interested, here's a site that goes into detail about the history of the flag on state grounds with opinion polls, etc in there. Might be interesting for some of y'all here who are new to our state and wondering how it got where it is now.

Hmm let me say for the THOUSANDTH time. Millions of people who lived here all there lives want it down. Its a frigging embarrasement that out of 50 states, we're the only ones that cant let go.

Again. Why do you want to be "that Guy?" Some of you are so ignorant, calling out transplants. Do you know where this state would be if we werent getting migration?

Its so embarrasing. All the denial.

I had lunch today with a friend who said she has changed her opinion about the Confederate flag and that it is time for it to come down. She said taking it down now would be a tremendous gesture and that she can now see how having it visible helps keep the Confederacy on the minds of people who have evil thoughts toward black people whether as a result of their upbringing or as the result of a sick hobby they adopted later in life. And let me tell you: without a doubt, if SHE changed HER mind on this, a whole HECK of a lot of people have GOT to be changing theirs, too, as they think about what just happened.
