Yes, this is completely abnormal at this time of year. Having dew points down into the 50's over this weekend is way way off from normals. Steve Jerve agrees!
Sure the dew points may be off but you keep talking like we're in a drought or something when we are getting exactly as much rain as we always get. It will start in June and go until September, then Oct-May itll be sporadic again. We will be ok.

Not even close in some areas, particularly in Whoville.

I can post up the last 34 years and show how our May weather really is. 9 out of 10 times it's pretty dry, to rain at all in both places i have lived since 1979, Danashores and west Pasco. We got a break this month on high temps.

He keeps thinking just dewpoints and humidity are the key to making T-storm's. When there are many other factors, like upper level lift, energy, colder air aloft and on and on. Most times the T-storms start around June 18th.

Because of that....areas that are RIGHT ON THE COAST are considered "coastal" here.........

So, MOST OF PALM HARBOR is not really "coastal" by Florida standards....maybe somewhere else- but not here......

"West of U.S.19 in Palm Harbor" is not really "coastal".............west of Alt 19 (right on the coast) is considered coastal.....

Barrier islands: YES

Areas less than 1 mile from the Intracoastal Waterway: YES

Areas greater than 1 mile from the Intracoastal Waterway eastward all the way to Tampa Bay: NO

In Florida (and especially Pinellas) "coastal" means: within a mile or so from the coast.
Another fact he can't understand.

It will average out over time.

Trip Explorer Tampa, USA : Weather Underground | Weather Underground

Scroll down to the bottom and you can see the recorded rainfall (and other pertinent information such as humidity and dewpoint) every day in May for the last several years. Please note that most May days had zero recorded precipitation. Only one of those recent Mays was moderately rainy, most were basically dry. That is normal.

Normal includes a range of conditions. Summer rains typically start sometime between late May and mid-June, but it is nevertheless within the range of normal for May to be completely dry or nearly so.

May indeed is dry compared to other months. But that doesn't mean we get nothing.

I just got the data for May for one of the longest station in Tampa Bay and plot a none exceedance probability. So, we don't need to fight how May has been looking historically . The data shows.. that 50% of the time we don't get more than about 3 inches, 40% of the time we get 2 inches or less, and so on.

May of 1979 was wet with near 17" in two days time in Tampa. Also May of 09 was above normal on rainfall.

The data that I used has May 1979 rainfall of 16.81 inches and that is the record for the station out of 70 years of data I plot.
