Hugh Bonneville Previews 'Downton Abbey' Season Four - Speakeasy - WSJ

Quote:

While shooting a 2009 adventure film called “From Time to Time,” actor Hugh Bonneville asked the film’s director, Julian Fellowes, what else he was working on. He mentioned a television miniseries he was writing called “Downton Abbey.” The rest is television history.

And TWO hours tonight! Looks like the life and Downton is never going to be as it was with the modern world slipping in. No spoilers.

And GO Mary!

I was very happy about the 2 hours for the first installment. Wish they were all two hours (with maybe a bathroom break inbetween). I was expecting not to be be impressed with this season, but was totally captured by episode 1 (&2??). Guess I missed the show more than I realized........

I also was happy with the two hour premiere. Poor Mosely! I hope he can find a new job. Hopefully one at Downtown.

Besides Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville, which other DA actors and actresses were well-known in the UK?

Looks like the new lady's maid and Thomas are going to be as sneaky and underhanded as O'Brien and Thomas were. Also looks like Rose is going to be the equivalent of Sybil in her rebelliousness. Hopefully this season won't be a repeat of previous ones just with different actors playing similar characters.

I was looking forward to the new episode. A bit disappointed but not sure why. The indoor scenes were poorly lit. Am glad to see Edith branching out.

i saw it last fall and watched it again last night. my initial impression, which didn't change, was that it was somewhat depressing and perhaps boring. i do think matthew's absence was felt.

i also think that the carson's friend storyline felt a little forced and sort of added on. i think two hours was too long for the story they had to tell.

as far as i'm concerned , rose adds nothing . they could have left out her story line.
