1998 started out super wet for my area, then we went bone dry for 3 years after with record low rainfall. I loved the fall- winter of 97-98 with over 35" of rain. The only real El Nino i remember other than 1983. The winter and spring of 83 was very active as just about every weekend we had bad weather and fishing offshore was very hard as it was windy and with fronts all the way thru Apirl and then by mid May we went back to normal. The El Nino back around 3 years ago was a total dud for my area. I would love another 97-98 El Nino every fall- winter.

I made a quick graph and checked.. PDO monthly Values

Looks like it's a long record for consecutive months.

January 2014 - December 2017 - 48 months
December 1939 - October 1942 - 35 months
December 1985 - August 1988- 33 months
August 2002 - September 2004 - 26 months

How were the Niños of 1990-95 (with a few interruptions), 2002-5 and 2009-10?

I don't remember anything that stands outs back in that time frame. I just know our winters started getting warmer 1990 and on. Now the fall winter of 95-96 was very active with colder and wetter weather. But after that year is has been very warm since other than 2010.

We did have the no name Storm back in March 13th 1993 but that was a one time freak event i will never live to see again.

Really highlights how persistent this pattern has been. It's got to flip at some point. Hopefully we can break some cold records during the upcoming winters while CA sees a multi-year wet period.

Suddenly I remember why I hope La Nina never exists again. <Wipes sweat from eyes>

Fear has set in for Spring.

Huge diff in temps in a short distance = some pretty scary weather can pop up for the people north west of me. We miss out on all that bad weather here in FL.
