No action can change what is to come with a super heating planet. Just a normal short 1500 year warming cycle and we have had many ups and downs over billions of years. I can beam all peeps and cars off the planet and it won't change a thing.

You hit the nail on the head. My grandmother used to say that "talking about the weather" was talking about matters over which we could do nothing.

There is a certain level of action or inaction that most countries are undertaking to reduce the intensity of emissions and corresponding warming contributions. China being the main caveat with it being very coal intensive, and they are divesting away from that. Most of the warming is certainly baked in for quite a long time, insurance companies are well aware of all of these facts, and that means larger geographical areas are no longer going to be insurable at all.

I feel like a "broken record" but even a cursory read of history shows all kinds of weather and climate catastrophes. Maybe that is one of the reasons that despite a lot of talk few re willing to surrender the benefits of modernity.

About the only strong Niño that I remember that had a cold Midwestern December was 1972. Usually El Niño has a warm bias in the Midwest and upper Great Lakes in December.

Yes exactly. I can't stand it.

Six of the last 8 days here were below normal by large degree and yet we are still +1.4F above normal for the entire month at ORD.+1.3F at Midway but here its -0.2F below normal. However after today's temps should propel IKK to be above normal for the month

The Euro long range isnt looking too wintry for North America east of the Rockies this December. Europe does but not us. Let's see how accurate this is
