Lot's of rain in California next week. Should help usher in a lush green spring.... Watch the screaming from global warming fanatics this summer about wildfires in California
Yep, with 2 back to back wet winters, the under brush growth will be significant. It'll all be dry tinder by the time the Santa Anas / Diablo winds start to blow in Sept/October.
Currently 27 F here. Both KSAV and KDNL are 33 F as of 8 PM. Let's see how low it gets tonight
Today is that toasty 27C Thursday, hope you enjoy it. I know I will enjoy monitoring it, the hottest forecast today is 29C in the Tampa Bay area and every major monitoring Southeast US state has stations with highs well into the 20sC. https://digital.mdl.nws.noaa.gov/?zo...&tunits=localt
The morning lows were significant as well, a lot of places this morning had lows similar to or warmer than the daily average high. Can't wait to see those super high daily means.

Guaranteed that 2024 will be the warmest on record again.

Apparently this is exactly when the Native Americans would perform their controlled burns - when the undergrowth was moist enough that there was less risk of fires going out of control.

Thursday is tomorrow, lol. Nonetheless some extreme southern parts of the state have warmed alot today. Valdosta is 80 F as of 2 PM and Waycross is 77 F. A weak CAD is holding on in northern Georgia, but should erode tomorrow. Athens is currently 54 F.

Probably but that has nothing to do with the El Nino induced atmospheric river that will turn California lush this spring and then later during the dry season induce wildfire risks. But for sure the news headlines will blame man made global warming.

I'm starting to think that the warmer solution will win out. The MJO looks to be stalling in the warm phases then drop into null space instead of the colder phases for the US
More people die from extreme cold than heat, so this could be a good thing. As would an extended growing season.
I've seen some studies claim that, but I'm still not fully bought into the idea that it's cold causing the deaths, as opposed to suppressed Vitamin D production or monsoon-related diseases.

Whoops. But hey, one more day of heat is always better monitoring and Waycross/Valdosta onwards are doing great in the meantime, as is special spot Gainesville.
There's perhaps a bigger surprise between Savannah and points north than there is between North and South Georgia. Savannah Airport has reached 21C which is 4C colder than Charleston Airport and is only as warm as Wilmington Airport 2 1/2 degrees north.
Edit: It should be noted that today is the 21st anniversary of the bad cold outbreak on January 24 2003. Talk about a contrast weather-wise.
