We are visiting Asheville for the first time for the month of August,2016. The stories about Ingles Mkt (the closest to our rental)have us very apprehensive as we are used to Publix here in Florida, very happy at that. We weren't expecting a Wegmans, but not looking for what has been described. Publix also has a lock on the market here but they still compete and aim to please. We will be in the Azalea area (Gash Farm Rd),any shopping suggestions would be appreciated. We are octogenarians so excessive travel time in a strange area is not conducive to your traffic safety.

Publix #1473, Pinnacle Point, 1830 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28803-3207, opened on 29 April 2015.

I like Ingle's new and updated stores. They are better than Bi-Lo and Food Lion, supermarket participants that have reduced presences in Buncombe County.

^ Ingles is OK, though some rave about it, and I find it varies a bit from store to store...it isn't Publix, but it also doesn't have the FL Publix pricing that I am familiar with, though we may buy different stuff at Pub's or Ingles than you do.

GOOG Maps shows an Ingles, an Aldi, a Whole Foods, (pricey, imo), and a few others, though only the Ingles is 'close' to your location.

When you get settled and hit the road to shop or explore, can you let us know? Just kidding...I get the driving around in unfamiliar locales isn't always fun. Congrats on getting to your 80s.
GL, mD

GOOG Map, should be zoomable. Gash Farm Rd area is at the marker:

It appears Ingle's #4, 1141 Tunnel Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28805-2019, would be the closest supermarket.

That was the purpose of my GOOG map: Ingles and other stores, in OP's location...

There is a Publix on Rt. 25 heading south out of Asheville.

QC: A Pub fan!
I thought most of the board was drinking the Ingles Kool-Aid.

Yessirreeee....! Publix has purchased some property just south of downtown Hendersonville opposite The Fresh Market. All approvals met, and are currently working on clearing the parcel, removing old stores, etc. Plans are to be ready next spring.

The Publix announced for Hendersonville will be a freestanding store at South Market Village.

Publix has another store under construction in Buncombe County, store 1546, Weaverville Plaza, 165 Weaver Boulevard, Weaverville, North Carolina 28787-8345. It will open in 2017 also.

I have never had a problem at Ingles. Workers have always been very nice and helpful (in the newer stores). Publix is nice, but pricey for me, as a family of 5.
