The problem is that going anywhere as a tourist in or outside of the US gives you a tourist view. You are spending money and as a visitor, putting dollars into the local economy, and you are usually welcome. If you try to make a living there, you are taking away local dollars, not adding to them, so you get a different reception. It's like the difference between being a student, where you are paying to be there, versus getting a job, where they are paying you to be there. As a tourist or a student people ask you how do you like it here. As a job seeker they ask you what are you doing here.

I just can't wait to travel international again. I had to cancel a lot of big plans this year. Really miss traveling. I think that's one thing that would do a lot of people in this country some good. I agree. The great divide is a divide of opinions and beliefs, not actions. And the media uses it to sell commercials. It's a cheap source of news that brings in the ratings. I agree with all you said about my actual daily experience versus what makes the news. Even the million person demonstrations only were attended by less than 1/2 of 1% of the population, and they had virtually no effect on anything. Most riots and demonstrations involve hundreds, maybe a few thousand people. A miniscule fraction of a percent of the population. Yet it's reported as a potential revolution or civil war. The vast majority of people live the same peaceful and regimented lives, regardless of their opinions and beliefs.

Do I see any of what you claim from my town? Absolutely no. No riots, no guns in the street, great healthcare, transit is fine, no one discusses politics (except in social media and TV), no crumbling infrastructure, I live in a diverse town - no one bother with race discussions, we are too busy to hate, raising families, working at steady and rewarding jobs, pursuing hobbies, and enjoying the fruits of our labor.
You hear a distorted vision of America in the media, and in particularly social media - it's all hyperbole and hysterics. You would think the US is a haven of lawless crime with everyone carrying a gun until you read the statistics that say crime has been down every year since the 80s in the US. You would think everyone is living in poverty until you read the statistics that the poverty rate in the US (which in turn would reflect those rich in some countries) has been reducing every year since 2014. News and social media extort everything, it's sensationalized.
What you need to do is step away from that TV news which you claim not to watch, and social media. And no the grass is not greener....

If you roll back to before the communist revolution of 1933, America was a much nicer place.
Yeah, if you were "free, white and 21" a common expression back then. But there was the KKK, cross burnings, lynching, restricted neighborhoods, schools, clubs and jobs, widespread poverty and starvation, and the birth of organized crime thanks to prohibition. No unions, pensions or healthcare. Men were allowed to beat there wives. Pregnant girls were sent away to have their babies and have them adopted in secrecy. A much nicer place in the movies, maybe.

In the whitewashed world of 6th grade history class, early 20th century America was peaches and cream. In the real world, Italians, Irish, Poles and Jews were reviled. African-Americans were less than second class citizens. Read up on the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 and tell me how wonderful pre-1933 America was. We’re better today than we were then, despite what the extremists and MSM would have us believe.

I would look to move to a different part of the USA & see if you like it any better. Getting jobs overseas is not easy, & always remember, no matter where you go, there you are
