When the waiter says, "If you want anything, my name is {X}", the immediate response in every computer programmer's mind is, "What will your name be if we don't want anything?"
Everytime I go to the store, the checkout clerk askes me "Did you find everything you needed today?". One particular store I go to is always understocked or out of things I want, or worse yet, quits carrying brands I like. Any attempts on my part to provide meaningful feedback when that question is asked is met with a completely blank stare. They are supposed to ask the question but they apparently haven't been trained for a negative response. Don't ask me if you don't really want to know the answer!
OK, since we're mentioning things, my pet peeve is "due to" as in "due to events beyond our control"............ Well... Boats, Trains, Planes are due to arrive as a set time, or, are due to leave at a specific time, things happen BECAUSE OF other events, not "due to"
