'artsy-fartsy'. That's not only stupid, it's revolting. There is a business in my area calling itself 'The Artsy-Fartsy Studio' and I picture a bunch of artistic divas sitting around sculpting, painting and passing toxic clouds of intestinal gas.

"To be honest" - (I guess they are saying they weren't being honest before.)

Well, it got your attention and you probably wont forget it. They have accomplished their goal by choosing that name.

Others may have suggested these already, but I don't have time to read through all 25 pages.

So here goes. These aren't so much "phrases" as they are just things people say that seem to make no sense, and annoy me.

"Be yourself" - Usually said by stupid people who think you aren't doing what they really want you to, therefore try to manipulate you by thinking that if you were doing what they wanted you to do, you would in fact somehow be "being yourself". Take it from experience.

"Get a life" - Do these idiots who say this think they've done such a top notch job of psychoanalyzing you that they can assume you are worthless enough not even to be in evidence of anything resembling a "life" to their petty judgement already?

"Kinda like" and "y'know" said mid sentence about 40 bloody times. What are you? Brain dead, or just on the way? "Kinda like" what? Kind a like the fact that you can't even articulate a simple sentence that a 10 year old could have done 50 years ago?

Also the word "nary". I mean, who the heck uses such an irritating and snotty word in usual everyday parlance these days? In my experience, only those trying to be pretentious in some way.

"heads up" bothered me for a long time. now that I find myself using it, I can't complain.

over all, the phrase "used to" is one that has bothered me ever since I noticed it in about 2nd grade.

They didn't invent it. It's been around a long time, and just because it's clever marketing doesn't make it less inane. Lots of inane terms are good marketing.

Hey, thanks for posting that. It didn't solve the riddle, but at least I know someone else is wondering these same weird things.

How about "give me a break?" (Why do you deserve a break? Just because you don't agree with what the other person said?)

Words like Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics and all that stuff.

A lot of Hispanics are Caucasians! And the african americans? That classification is really heavy. Maybe is easy for you... but from Europe we can't understand it because there are different factors into one definition.
Races are races. Why don't you use their main chararacteristics?... Or not using anything? I think it's just a hypocritical social attitude.
