Good one virgode! Politically Correct. Can't figure out if that phrase is oxymoronic, or ironic. Weasel words for sure. Or maybe it's a sniglet.

Well, you can put that schpritz in the refrigerator . . . the door's closed, the light's out, the eggs are cold, the butter's hard, and the Jelloooooo's jiggling . . .

Until I found myself saying these frequently:

"Heads up"

"Just sayin' "

Sometimes it's a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" feeling.

Some that annoy the crap out of me, a couple are message board speak.

"Just a thought." I want to put my balls in a meat grinder when people write that.

When you ask someone how's it going and they say: "It's going." Wow thanks for the awesome insight into your life jackass.

The loose/lose confusion that I never really saw until I became addicted to message boards. That is never an issue in regular writing.

"Luke I am your father." There should be a shoot on site policy to anyone who says this, especially if they doing it whilst wearing some sort of mask.

"24/7" is also whack annoying.

I know there are some that I am forgetting, but these are my biggest pet peeves.

I've even heard this one on the TV news, and they should know better!

One of the only

There is no such thing. It should be "The only" or "One of the many" or One of the few.

"what had happen was"

"but if you ask me"

"shoulda woulda coulda" I don't even know what means, but I had a boss that would say that all the time.

This inspires me to mention a great little book by Paul Wasserman and Don Hausrath, titled WEASEL WORDS: The Dictionary of American Doublespeak. Depending on your frame of mind, it's either fascinating or frightening!

One that I have heard two people use on TV lately- when telling someone how much they like/admire them is "I'd die for you."

High ick factor there.

"Now that I think about it." I just wrote that one in a post. But, now that I think about it; it sounds a little goofy. Like I wasn't thinking previously. SW

You took care of two items in one nice, short sentence there! Not only is 24/7 annoying, but so is whack (or, as it sometimes gets rendered, wack). There's very little I find more grating than a completely meaningless usage.
