As far as complaining about something "real", let's start with something pertinent to the topic of this thread.

Most of us know people who've moved to Alaska and then tried to make it exactly like where they came from. The OP is right; we may be experiencing another influx of that sort soon.

Sarah Palin wasn't the catalyst for an Alaskan "trend"; it already began a couple of years ago--but because of Palin it's become more mainstream.

Why do people move to Alaska and then want Starbucks and big box stores? I don't have anything against lattes and frequent independent coffee shops now and then.

Of course everything and every place changes and we're hard wired to be migratory beings. I don't know many people who are living where they are born. If everyone did that, just think of the inbreeding....we keep ourselves genetically healthy by getting out of dodge when we're young.

I like the young people who come to Alaska, whether it's for a summer season or forever. They're just doing what they are supposed to be doing.

But I wonder how it will affect the state if we do have a big influx of people moving up for "lifestyle" reasons. Look at freakin' Montana and parts of Oregon. Lord help us.

Ditto.

And-hey---hi Metla! Not naming names but a certain person and his brothers accidentally shot the head off of the decoy out by Staney Crk...last week. Blew it up, is what I heard. And had a doe in the back of the truck... GOD I love this place.

LOL, no, I'm glad too. I said jesus h christ because I know just what you're talking about.

I remember...geez it must be over 20 years ago, when one of those idiots shot what they thought was a wolf from the road, over past salt water flats....good thing they got off the island before the guy who owned the golden retriever they killed got ahold of them.

I couldn't agree more.
I spent 3 weeks in Montana back in '06. "Hobby Ranchers" and "californicators" are destroying that wonderful state.
For crying out loud, people born there and lifelong residents can't afford to own a home or property there.....

HOW on EARTH can anyone who's not deaf, dumb, and blind, mistake a golden for a WOLF? They were obviously too something or other to be let loose on their own with anything more lethal than a cork gun.

I suppose if they had seen a real wolf, they'd have thought it was just a funny looking german shepherd.

Same thing happens when people mistake cows for deer... They see something that looks like it should be shot & they shoot it. Just ask Dick Cheney.
