Are you seriously suggesting European capitalism is the same as American capitalism? It's extremely simple minded thinking to suggest there's only one form of capitalism or socialism. In Germany for example larger corporations are required to have workers representatives on the board. Most of these countries and Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Japan have "socialized" health care. Now that's enlightened capitalism as opposed to vulture capitalism where everything has to be sacrificed on the altar of greed and profit.
And all the countries you just mentioned don't have large and growing unproductive minority populations. So the nation (not totally the same case in Canada mind you) is much more socially and ethnically coheasive. They don't have a huge growing underclass who wants the A list lifestyle with out earning the education and work chops to achieve it.
When we subsidize the rich, it's sexy patriotism; when we subsidize the poor, it's godless communism.
We have subsizded too many things....look at farming as a prime example...oil companies get to drill on federal land and don't have to pay for the privilage. But that does help the economy but at a cost. Special interests suck. Both sides of the isle Bright Eyes.
When you subsidize the poor...it only makes it worse in the LONG TERM. It never improves. Does it? We have the fifth generation of welfare families accepting the public dole that began with Johnson's great society. Clearly, it has not fixed the problem--it has only made it worse, larger and more dangerous because America now has a HUGH deficit---thanks to the President. We are screwing the next generation.
This guy is dumber than a box of Borax, or Borat. Socialism only works until you can't take anyone elses money. It took a Margaret Thacher to get Great Britian back on track, otherwise they would be the Cuba of today in Europe.
I loved Margaret Thatcher, but if you think that somehow she singlehandedly saved the UK from socialism, you're mistaken. Britain's parliamentary system doesn't work that way. And they might wind up looking like Cuba anyway, if they don't take a peek at their entitlements liabilities like the Netherlands is doing.
Britain will sooner become an Islamic caliphate than a socialist utopia. There was never any danger of it. What you're confusing with socialist was out of control vote buying with entitlements spending.

Seriously though, it's because of completely untrue blather like yours that the republican party and libertarianism are losing traction in American politics, thank god. Although I'd much rather people start thinking for themselves and realize how wrong they are, I know that's near impossible thanks to the celebration of idiocy on the right wing and the demonization of free, rational thought... so, keep on going! It only serves to marginalize conservatism more and more.

And yet, when we are on the topic of incarceration, THEY'RE COMMIES. Nevermind that not only does our incarceration rate trumps China's (716 vs 170 by the highest estimates per 100k people), but the raw number of people incarcerated does, but there are also about 650k more prisoners here than over there despite them having over a billion more people than us.
Could this have anything to do with our free-market, for-profit prison system, which not only has a thriving lobby, but also pays off judges and state legislature and supports the Republican Party far and wide? Oh, no - I'm sorry, it's those damn liberals who want everyone to be able to smoke all their weed without any sort of retribution...

I am not sympathetic to the Castro regime. However, I don't think this is the work of socialism. Sweden has socialism. Stockholm looks quite nice. Haiti doesn't have socialism. Never has. It was an ardent anti-communist nation. Its capital looks quite bad compared to Havana.
