Unless they decided to move the commercial space to another level.. The city approved the two extra floors a while back.. The first floor is supposed to have commercial/retail space...

The parking deck opens next month and will see then..

Nort, where has it ever said it was going to have retail space? Please show me cause I really want to know. The only place I've ever heard anything about it is from you.

I saw it with my own two eyes nort, there were TRUCKS from the construction company parked on the ground floor. And why would they have retail sandwiched between parking? Go down there and take a look for yourself.

Uh nort, that's a list of the different id numbers, descriptions, and locations of the different properties (parcels) of land that were purchased/used for the site of the parking garage. Doesn't say anything about the parking garage having retail or anything about the design whatsoever. Hate to burst your bubble.

Just go downtown tomorrow and look at the thing, it's a parking garage (a nice looking on at that), but there's no retail. If I remember correctly, when the rendering of the garage was first released, we all agreed that it appeared that it looked as though the 1st level would be retail, however it appears as though we were incorrect. EDIT: Yeah, this is where the retail thing originated, it seems we were all mistaken. http://www.city-data.com/forum/augus...l#post15382111 http://www.city-data.com/forum/augus...l#post15549661

Wishful thinking on all our parts lol. It still is a nice looking facility though. Once the TEE is complete, that portion of downtown will feel remarkably different.

The $1.3 million improvements to James Brown Boulevard/9th street begin February 2012.. The improvements stretch from the parking deck and TEE Center construction in the CBD.. Through the completed library, Red star building, and judicial center in the CBD.. Then the road crosses Walton Way and enters the major construction happening in Laney Walker(homes, townhomes, business centers, parks, roads, streetlights, etc)...

James Brown Boulevard to get $1M facelift
The plan calls for new sidewalks, lighting and beautification on James Brown Boulevard from Laney Walker to Reynolds Street. It also calls for safety improvements to train tracks that run right between parking and the new judicial center. The new investment comes as the city prepares to brand the area as part of a new Laney Walker Historic Trail and welcome increased traffic from the new parking deck and Trade Exhibit and Events Center. The Laney Walker redevelopment is possible thanks to hotel/motel tax dollars. The new tours are part of the stipulations. The DDA said it hopes to start work as early as February 2012.
