I'd feel very isolated if I lived in Adelaide. It's sort of like being stuck on an island except there's grassland instead of water.

Isn't even city in Aus isolated? Perhaps Perth more than others, but it's a big continent with few major urban areas.

I don't mind either places and like them better than Sydney or Brisbane for instance.

At least Victoria has regional towns. There's really nothing comparable in SA, it's just Adelaide and then the outback.

Adelaide isn't a bad city, it just has an emptiness to it that I felt when I was there.

I biked from Adelaide to Melbourne. When I crossed the border I felt like I was entering the civilized world.

Both are somewhat boring. Especially Canberra. Most people don't hate them, but tend to cop the sharp end of the stick. There is a bit of rivalry between Vic and SA in the footy, so some of it might stem from that.

Winters are "too cold" in both cities?

This is what I'm talking about. How is it more civilized just because you crossed the border?

No, I haven't, but I am interested in seeing both. That's why I asked.

That would explain that part of it, since most of the bad things I read are at BigFooty and coming from Victorians.

It's from comments I read in passing on any Aussie forum, be it for sport or architecture. It's just the general feeling I got. I'm not implying anything myself.
