I was gutted... it was looking great for Suarez... I think it's either an spotting error or a race incident... Elliot went for the opening and got there super quickly. Anyway, first win will come sooner rather than later.
That was.. 5 laps to go at Talladega. Someone's going to make a dumb move. In that case, I think it was both Chase and Suarez.. Chase was making crazy moves behind, and Suarez was blocking.. It was going to happen.

either way they took each other out of the race. had they hooked up in the draft, they miht have been able to settle it between themselves. well they both will learn from this and get better the next time.

Keselowski and Hamlin was it there at the end that hooked up in a tandem and pulled away?
Now, had there been a full field behind them, would that have worked the same way? But, I suspect you'll see something similar tried in Daytona next year.
I suspect a full field could draft up to them and blow by them, dunno. Was hoping Jr could pull something out but nope. Whole lotta smashed up cars. Can't remember the last time the field was that small at the end.

I remember a Talladega race in the Busch series a few years ago where I think there were 3 cars left on the lead lap (Or 3 competitive cars) after an early wreck.
2002 race.. Keller and Stacy Compton were the only competitive cars left, after a big one that took out 30 cars and Kenny Wallace lost an engine. Tim Fedewa who was supposed to start and park wound up third.
During the broadcast, they mentioned this race was tied with the 1986 Cup race for the least amount of cars running at the finish (14). I think this was only for Talladega.

My understanding, he was in a wreck.. Significant but not fatal damage to the car.. They wound up having an extra man go over the wall trying to fix it.. Instead of a 'tail end of longest line' penalty, which would be normal for an extra man over the wall.. They parked him?

From what I understand, NASCAR put a new rule in place this season that puts teams on a 5 minute clock to try to repair the car. During those 5 minutes you are allowed only 6 guys over the wall, and if you have anymore than that........you have to take it to the garage and your day is over. That is what happened to Matt yesterday from what I understand. Kinda nutty, but rules are the rules.

the rule is that when you are repairing accident damage in the pits, you are on that five minute clock. go over five minutes, and you are done. but another part of that rule is that you can only have 6 people over the wall when working on that car with accident damage, too many over the wall and you are done, just like if you used too much clock.
their thinking for that penalty was that the normal penalty for having too many over the wall was not enough to discourage the practice. personally i think it is a bull crap rule to begin with, since sitting in the pits, even under caution, is a big penalty anyway.

Yeah, I know about the 5 minute clock, but I had no idea that too many men over the wall while on the clock was basically a parking.
Did they send too many people or is it one of those situations where someone extra went over the wall to service the driver or grab a tire or something simple like that? Where the extra person wasn't really involved in the repair?
So.. How do they determine that you're "on the clock"? Someone is in an incident and a fender is pushed in.. They send an extra person over the wall.. They pull the fender out, but outside of that it's a normal stop? Is there a definition as to what puts you 'on the clock'?
