Better yet, how the hell did they not call the goaltend on the same play. Gasol clearly grabbed the rim.
It was not that noticeable and it is not the reason that he missed that layup. He missed that layup because he threw it too hard against the backboard and the prescence of Gasol, not because Gasol touched the rim.
Bynum and Odom will always be in foul trouble in this series. They're going up against Howard. It is ok though since it is 12 fouls between them to use.
Problem is, Bynum is not using all his fouls on Howard (nor is Odom). And he keeps getting cheap ticky-tack fouls called when trying to prevent Howard from getting position, even though they're both battling equally as hard. Those should be non-calls. If he'd just play smarter, he'd only be picking up 3-4 fouls per game.

The same way they didn't call it when Howard put his arm through the rim to block one of Pau's shots earlier in the game. They missed it. I didn't see it in real time. Or maybe they didn't feel he caused the rim to move enough to alter the shot. After looking at the replay, you have to wonder if Pau's fingers didn't get caught up in the rim/net, if he wouldn't have had a chance to block the shot.

That was a hell of a game. Everyone knew Orlando was going to come out with a lot more energy and they were going to play their game. Howard passed it out to open shooters and they knocked down most of their shots. They won the rebounding battle, they hit more of their free throws, their big 3 all scored a lot of points. They just didn't win. If this were the Cavs (or maybe even last year's Lakers), the Magic come out of that game with W.
It's got to be frustrating for them to have been in a position to win and not pull it out. But they should feel good knowing that they have the ability to do it. It's just a matter of making the plays at the end, like they've done in the past 3 series. On the flip side though, the Lakers had to feel good that they came out with a win even though they blew a ton of defensive assignments on the 3 point line. Lewis, and others, were left open way too often. Their defensive effort was no where near the level of the first game. We'll see how both teams adjust.

I agree, but Bynum had a couple of silly ones, fouls I hope he doesn't make with more experience.

As another poster wrote, Gasol, never "grabbed" the rim, but he did hit it. But the refs probably missed that call just like they missed when Howard blocked a Gasol shot when Howard's hand went through the rim to block it. Clearly that was a goal tend that wasn't called.
