Winds are crazy right now near Lake Merritt where I am. One thing different about the winds here compared to similar winds in San Diego is the sudden out of no where gusts. It can be calm then suddenly a 30mph gust will slam into you like a hammer.

I hope CDF and USFS haven't sent home the seasonal suppression crews yet.
I think you just won the dewpoint jackpot!

Last night it was really gusty in N. Oakland, there's so many leaves on the ground now that at first I thought it was raining because they were getting blown around and scraping on the ground in a way that sounded like rain.

Earlier today it was minus 2.9°. Now it's rebounded to a tropical 1°. In past years here in Fontana, I've seen it dip to minus 39. That's thirty nine.

That's Cajon Pass for you. Taking that high desert air and compressing it even more.

Yep, heard that too in the Grand Lake area. There were palm fronds all over my street. Problem is, there aren't any palms on my street so they were blown from somewhere.

Well, I'm not gonna worry until I find palm fronds up on my island property in Puget Sound ... then I'll know there's a real wind blowing.

My point was that such precipitation can be devastating due to the geography (lots of steep mountain slopes, which contribute to heavier rainstorms and more flooding, etc.), but no, 30"+ of rain per year is not a normal amount for the L.A. area. Of course, "normal" is really just an average, anyway.

Yes. A Canadian woman offered to read mine when I was in Seattle last ... but I can't trust Canadian interpretation of palms. They're pretty good at Maple leafs, I'll give them that (grudgingly).
