Men usually just belch, fart and scratch to let off steam. User (a term I associate with junkies) just argues. Wonder what that makes him.

Ridicule is always a social act, but its also clear you are trying to be overtly vulgar....as if its going to disturb my sensibilities.... But its just wasted effort...

The same thing they say now, you can easily deal with the budgetary issues with some modest tax increases. The reason for the high debt is largely due to Californians desire for strong social services combined with Republicans (the minority) desire to derail these services by not properly funding them with taxes. The current issues are just part of Republican strategy, namely to destroy the state's finances to the point where the state has no choice but to remove the programs.

California is a socialist economy? Odd...considering its part of the US....

Heh heh ... user_id just made another funny ... an oxymoron this time. Oh, but you didn't mean it to be funny ... nevermind. I am overtly vulgar. My wife used to say "You can be meaner than cat-pee in a hat". That's vulgar too, I suppose ... but, of course, I thought it quite funny. No doubt you are aghast that some people are so coarse. Tsk. And to think I was raised in such a remarkably cultured home: had to wear clean, collared shirts to the table even when there weren't no guests; washed hands and faces, even behind the ears, or no supper; had to know which kinds of forks went where, too; had to take turns reading famous literature after we ate; college degrees for everyone, including graduate degrees for three out of four of us kids; highly esteemed father in the world of social sciences; English teacher mother; my god the list goes on and on -- and yet I went wrong ... right down the tubes into the sewer ... a heartbreaking story of loss and sorrow.

user_id -- sensibilities -- now that's rich! "Disturb"[ed], yes. "Sensibilities"? ... uh no. You're a common, garden variety noodge.

I don't find you or your behavior "coarse", as your continued commentary about your life suggests...you're a bit of a sissy of the nationalist genius. What is bothersome is that you seem to be doing it for my benefit utilizing a rather trite model of who you think I am.... But hey....if you enjoy it continue as you wish. Just thought I'd make a brief note....as a clear trend was developing....

Wow... From those numbers it sounds like CA really does need more government and not less.

California has been gradually suffocated by the ultraconservative minority in the legislature for the last decade. We're slowly but surely moving towards being dead last in the country on K-12 spending per student (last I checked, we were #46 out of 50 states), state parks are being closed because we have no money to maintain them, and prisons are forced to release criminals because we can't afford to keep them locked up.

The budget in question is for $92.6 billion. Total population of the state is 37.2 million people. That's $2,500 per person.

Ten years ago, there were 34.7 million people in the state, and the state budget was $103.3 billion ($3,000 per person). Adjusted for inflation to 2011, that would be $3,800 per person.

So, the governor wants to increase spending to slightly more reasonable levels, and to pass a budget that spends only two thirds of what the state spent 10 years ago, and you accuse him of being "out of touch" and "not having a clue"?
Your analysis is focused purely on state spending and doesn't include city and county spending. Government spending per capita in California much higher than $2500 per person (though I don't know what it is today). In 2007 it was $6417, ranking 12th (according to the Tax Foundation).
