I was reading an article about how Mexico has become a major destination of Californians leaving, and I thought, hmmm....If the choice were between Texas or Mexico, where would most Californians prefer?

Any thoughts?

Personally, I'd pick Mexico over Texas. Somewhere on the Baja Peninsula, or maybe near Guadalajara. I dunno, but I'd prefer many areas in Mexico over Texas(aside from Houston)

The state of Texas vs ALL of Mexico? Mexico wins, for sure. For sheer diversity of climate & landscape, if nothing else.

Texas because there are many areas that feel like California. Dallas and Austin, for example, have many tech companies, like San Francisco.

I have/had many friends who have houses in gated northern Baja beach communities that are weekend surf retreats. As I (we) get well into our 40’s, several have semi/fully retired there.

Back in the day before satellite/internet all you needed was rabbit ears to watch the Chargers game after surfing. Or to get any other San Diego TV/radio station. Most had small markets (some with a lot of American made products), and a taco stand or restaurant on site. No need to leave until we went home.

If I didn’t have to cross daily (or often) I could 100% live there. Barring the border wait, I could be back in San Diego in under an hour.

With all that said, with a wife that doesn’t like Mexico, and an aging mother, I’d have to choose Texas.

What's the wife’s beef with Mexico?

Mexico because the surf in Texas sucks. The geography overall is very limited. When I was younger and poorer I might have chosen Texas to go work at the SpaceX test or launch facilities, or NASA HSFC. Now that I'm old and rich I want to live in a nice place.

Also, does anyone actually go TO Texas for a vacation or fun? I mean other than Okies?
