My opinion is the huge police presence is being brought in to protect the image of the DNC & Obama and little to do with real security. Anyone not toeing the party line is out. Wear the wrong teeshirt, crack on the head. Carry a protest sign, mace to the face. They don't want anyone protesting the state of the horrible economy, nobody protesting the 2-3 undeclared wars that never end, and absolutely no protests against wall street, banksters, 1%ters (less they put away the check book)
In other words it's sterilization instead of security.
It'd be wholly irresponsible for local government to take whimsically the matter of security in Charlotte during the course of the convention.

"If it's cold outside and no one is perspiring, why is this individual perspiring?"

Uh gee...number of reasons. Could it be that they're anxious over something - perhaps a close relative is about to give birth, or maybe someone's in the hospital. Or, I hate to say it, but is there one person who hasn't paced about when they're waiting on line, and have to use the bathroom?
You see, the presumption, unfortunately, is that EVERYONE is suspect. I feel bad for the poor schlub that gets caught up in something that's nothing more than an honest misunderstanding.
I don't understand why anyone would object. Anyone that wants to protect citizens is O.K. in my book. I too would welcome firemen as well if ever needed.
I object. Out of state police aren't up-to-date with the NC laws. They won't be. In SC private security guards have the ability to arrest someone, NC they don't. Also, NC as anywhere else, has certain tolerences toward certain crimes that other states don't have. A Ca cop may over look causal marijuna use at a private residence, whereas a SC cop may feel the need to bring in the swat team. According to the article, this wasn't a downtown only type deal, this was for all neighborhoods.
Firefighters? Bring them on.... they're useful. House burns down, are the firefighters going to stop fighting the fire because they see pot plants? Nope.

Good points. I didn't look at it like that, but you are right. Gee, just think of how all the extra security and order will enhance the image of our humble, transparent president.

I saw that the extra police will be from out of the area, I didn't see out of state. They're also sending extra police to Gaston & Cabarrus Counties. It's a good thing. It's better to be prepared than to be caught flat-footed.
These out of state officers will most likely be paired with CMPD units, instead of a two man CMPD unit, you will have a two man 1 CMPD 1 visiting. These out of state officers will be on tight leashes and supervised at all times by either the CMPD or Feds. There is really nothing to worry about. Do you want a CMPD officer guarding a door when he or she could be on the street or should an out of state officer guard a door freeing that local officer to patrol?
Well if they are here to do the job that our local cops arent doing thats great. Things like catching some of the ILLEGAL ALIENS and drivers texting .......Somehow I dont think they plan to.
The issue is maintaining the ratio of cops:citizens for regular purposes...
when a special even (like a convention) requires so many extra bodies.
I suspect (hope?) that the out of towners will mostly be doing the convention work...
leaving the CMPD to do it's regular job without too many changes.
