Last time I was in New York a couple of years ago, it struck me that all the pizza from all the places that I loved so much growing up sucked as bad as the pizza I get in the South. Maybe it is just where I was (Yonkers and the north Bronx) but it seems that the old Italians that ran these places for years and years sold out to newer immigrant groups, and the pizza making artistry left with them.
I fear that pizza making in general is a lost art.
I would rate Paluso's a little higher than Upsate. I have not ate at Paluso's since they first moved out of Bogey's. I really like Carmella's which is ironic because it is not made in a deck oven (which I strongly prefer over conveyors having used them both) and it is made by Greeks, but they invented pizza anyway.
I'm gonna have to try this place, my absolute, all time favorite pizza place ever (in CT ) was owned and run by Greeks
First of all , there is no best pizza. Everyone has different taste, but if you understand something in pizza , you should try Upstate Pizza. You will see what i am talking about.
Theres a "coming soon" sign up by Lowes Foods on 521 and Lancaster ....Marinos Philly Pizza........what's phillly pizza??? Is it similar to Chicago style or NY style??

On our first day here in Charlotte we found the N.Y. pizza we craved for the 22 we spent in Md. after from moving fron Jersey. Tony's pizza in Ballantyne. The cheese is real Mozzerella, not "Pizza Cheese" and drips down your wrist. The crust is just thin enough to stay stiff just after the first drooping bite. I could go on, but they won't open for hours and I won't make it that long. A close 2nd is Anzi's in Stonecrest. (there is also a Jersey Mikes subs tucked around the corner to the right of Anzi's and though it is a "Chain" it is as close as I have come to a real sub in a long time. (a lil too clean, though)
Enjoy................ And when in Rome..... Try some of these rib and wing places. These guys are on to something. I think you will like the food and the people. The service is is incredible even in the smallest of places. When they ask you if you need anything they actually plan on bringing it to you!! Amazing. Embrace it!
