It's hard to find a cheap greasepit with a cheap gyro in Houston!

I just read all 10 pages of this thread, and my mouth is watering!!!
I miss:
Chicago hot dogs
Italian sausage with sweet peppers
Pizza -- both deep dish and thin crust
A good gyros with extra sauce
A good German restaurant (none around here without traveling an hour)

Unforunately, German restaurants are a dying breed around here as the "old school" population dies off and/or moves away and as culinary tastes change to more exotic offereings. (Reference the demise of: Zum Deutschen Eck, Golden Ox, Schulien's, Heidelberger Fass, Von Stuke's, Schwaben Stube, etc. ) Methinks German restaurants will still go strong for a few more generations up in Wisconsin. In the meantime, there are still a few solid holdouts here in town like Mirabell, Laschett's, and Edelweiss.

when i was in chicago i went to some place probably filled with tourists saying that it was like right near sears tower. anyways, my dad and i ordered a small pizza to share (which was huge for 2 people) and saying we have sensitive stomachs, it probably wasnt a good idea. We ended up scraping like all the cheese off, so our stomachs were okay but we would not order it again. He ordered an italian beef too though (yeah it was probably enough food for like 5/6 people lol) but thought that it was really good so im going with ITALIAN BEEF

ive never been to a german restaurant in chicago but thats sad. I love german food...so good. The schnitz, really overdone meat (it sounds gross but they do it slowly so its really soft and falls off the bone), knedel etc etc
