The Good People of Sturgis count heavily on this once-annual event to keep their town afloat, and apparently they didn't think the risks from it were as great as the risks from disallowing it. It's going to be interesting to see what happens from it - there apparently was not a huge outbreak from all the G-F protests and rioting, and IMHO, these people are "protesters" as well, except they're protesting against being locked down by expressing their freedom to assemble and drink heavily for the week.

Being in a high-risk group, I'm not attending myself, but again, take great interest in learning about any effects, the attendees are running an "experiment" we all can learn from. My guess is that South Dakota's infection rates are not going to go up all that much, but the attendee's home cities may see a rise once they return home. But again, until a vaccine is found, we're all bound to get it anyway (unless we choose to stay on lockdown and go broke). Being retired, I have the luxury to choose greater safety and have so far exercised it. We've "bent and flattened the curve", and opening back up has produced the expected rise in cases, but with the added benefit of lower hospitalizations and deaths - is it because so much of the low-hanging fruit has already been picked by the disease, or are weaker strains being produced? That's for Greater Minds than Mine to calculate.

I recommend South Dakota !
Well if current polling data holds - not saying it's going to but it could - you might be getting a nice sweet taste of what we're going through right now very soon! Or at least will be sending a lot of cash our way. The problem with flight is you leave power bases to fester, corrupt, and grow and, eventually, you run out of places to run to.

guidoLaMoto, I think you meant to say my "12 o'clock NAP"

Starting at 5:30 a.m. every morning, I go to my car in the afternoon for break and take a nap.

And it is that very good rest that keeps me a pleasurable up-beat guy!

Have a great day! My extended weekend starts in about 30 minutes! I'll probably take the kids to Lake County for kayaking and things.

Take care, city-data.commers! I hope your weekend and your city's weekend is a calm one!

As for me, i'm happy just to move to the suburbs.. i really love Michigan.. but when i saw that horrid governor, i changed that.

Even in Chicagoland there are very nice places to live in, far from Chicago, or even neighboring states.

Wherever i go, i will be ok, but i know there are nicer places to live than here, im just here for the commute to work that is easy for me.

Sorry, I thought you were a South Dakotan, or Dakotian, or however that would be said. This always cracks me up though. Right flight has been a very real thing, first from larger cities and now states. But really, where are 'ya going? This will catch up with them soon. If not in this election cycle, probably one in the not too distant future, unless our trajectory changes.

If we get, say, Democrats elected to House, Senate and White House, I guarantee one of their first orders of business is going to be to change the rules as much as possible to reduce Republican representation in the legislature and courts. If they'll succeed or not, I don't know, but they will sure try. That means all the rules skew towards cities and more liberal policies.

If they can get it done, it's "Bye, bye Electoral College". Same thing with the 2nd amendment. So with no cops, and gun ownership on par with Canada and Australia, we'll ALL be taking a knee...or else. I started watching a video tonight on the rise of Marxism in Democratic countries, the speaker seems to be a pretty smart feller, going to give it a thumbs-up without even finishing it:

Yes they have made their opposition to the Electoral College very clear, especially over the past 3 and some years. They don't feel bumpkins in South Dakota should be deciding such an important position as President. Their views on your Second Amendment rights have been clear for decades.

So I'll tell you, if the rest of the country decides to vote in Biden/Harris, and turns over the Senate, they are going to be getting everything they deserve. Just like people are saying about Chicagoans.

These posts crack me up.
Trump is screaming voter fraud with mail in ballots simply because he knows if voting is easy for those who have transportation issues, covid concerns, and everyone can easily vote.....he'll lose in darn near a landslide. It's so transparent do the math.
