These threads crack me up. We got all kinds of characters here. It's great. Who'd have thought lakes would cause blog controversy? Truth is I've seen awesome lakes in 25 states. Lakes are awesome, and they're everywhere. I appreciate the differences between Lake Okeechobee and Lake Michigan. My top 10
1-Lake Champlain, NY/VT
2-Saranac Lake, NY
3-Lake Michigan (haven't seen the other Great Lakes yet or MI/MN but thought the Chicago Lakefront was awesome)
4-Crescent Lake/Olympic National Park, WA
5- Lake Okanagan, BC
6-Lake Tahoe, CA
7-Lake Powell, UT
8-Priest Lake, ID
9-Lake Willoughby, VT
10-Moosehead Lake, ME
^ & ^^ Come to think of it, the pictures I was looking at Florida springs had people with wet suits on. Maybe some of the springs are not quite so warm after all, lol. Still they are nice to have nearby if scuba diving is your thing.
Florida springs stay around 70 degrees year round. Don't know where would have heard theat they were warm
There is something to be said about an alpine lake, 9,000 feet up above sea level, when your surrounded by craggy peaks, lush forest and unique flora and fauna. Just because a state has 5 billion lakes, doesn't mean its automatically the "winner". I would go for quality of quantity any day. When I fish California's alpine lakes, you see the unspoilt beauty, you breathe the clean air..its heaven.
No offense KC but if I see one more picture of the lift bridge taken from the rest area parking lot off of I35 I'm going to puke. Too far away to capture the uniqueness of the bridge and retail shops. Doesn't anybody ever bother to drive down to the lakefront? Much more compelling images down there. I'd rather see a picture of the ore boat taken from grandma's with the hills in the distance or standing next to the maritime museum.

Good point those colors are amazing. Just out of curiosity, how long would it take you to get to this lake from your front door?

Lake Powell is a fake, man made lake and doesn't compare to a natural lake.
The canyons that lake flooded to create a huge mud puddle in the desert ruined a lot of beautiful areas.
Oh. I can walk to a lake in 3 minutes. My brother can walk to five lakes in less than five minutes from his house. And both of us live in the metro area.
I have to vote for New York because of the Adirondack's lakes. There's something magical about them. They're always nice and cool in the summer, and I love how clear/clean they are. I also love the landscape around them and the reflections. I can't say that I've been to most of the lakes around the US; this is my favorite from what I've experienced.
