Apparently you're unaware that Brooklyn is one of the most iconic places on the planet, and is specifically a metaphor for alternative/youth culture, and the whole "hipster" scene.
That's why, from Berlin to Hong Kong to Sao Paulo, you have constant references to Brooklyn in terms of a certain typology of dining/fashion/music/etc. It's essentially the closest thing to a "Left Bank" in terms of global youth culture.

No, Brooklyn is known by virtually everyone, and Malibu is known by a few teenagers in Italy who watch American TV. Or it's the Dodge Malibu that's being referenced.
Yes precisely. It all boils down to demographic tastes and the global media caters to them.
And which is a bigger and more valuable global demographic? Teenagers or Hipsters?
Here's a Hint: It's not Hipsters.
This is amusing, btw.
You do realize that you're fabricating a comparison, right?
It has nothing to do with teenagers vs. hipsters. Brooklyn is 100x more famous to teenagers too. You think a skateboarding teenager in Milan or a hip-hop fan in Tokyo looks to Malibu? LOL. They have no idea what or where it is.
I was only referencing where the term "Malibu" comes from in popular culture. It's referenced in some U.S. TV shows and, of course, there's the car. It's a vague California beach reference, not one specific to LA.
In contrast, Brooklyn is among the most iconic places on earth, has a very specific reference, and is always known to be part of NYC.

Hahaha moving the goal post only works when it's in your favor-fyi.
So you brought 'teenagers' and 'hipsters' into the conversation in the first place, but then after presented with context that buries your premise, suddenly this has nothing to do with teenagers and hipsters? Really?
The fact is, Brooklyn's image and appeal really engenders the attention of a specific group, and I concur, you are correct in that sense.
But 'Malibu' and the image projected by Malibu is UNQUESTIONABLY more clearly defined to a much broader range of people, even if only casually or in passing.

Proof? I don't think Malibu is well known. Rich beach town is a bit of a generic image.

No, you're just making stuff up. I never had a premise that compared teenagers and hipsters; you did.

Yes, and that specific group is the entire globe. Everywhere from Osaka to Oslo, you will see specific references to Brooklyn as a trendy commodity within the context of NYC. Malibu has no such specific referencing.

And this statement is UNQUESTIONABLY nonsense. Malibu is an amorphous term and not even commonly referenced with LA. It's a car and a beach somewhere, and that's only for those who have heard of it.
