????

Didn't Florida become the 3rd most populous state in the US as a result of NYer's flocking away from their home state?

But Miami is the same region as NYC, so it's pretty much the same.

Just like a multi-billion dollar budget surplus translates directly into "going into bankruptcy". You just have to want it enough.

Miami is not the same region as NYC. Looking at a map -- Florida is the Southeast, NYC is Mid-Atlantic. They are over 1,000 miles apart.

I once abbreviated L.A. culture to mean the mass media that we see coming from Hollywood to the USA, and it was in error.

Also, beautiful girl behind the bar was very much a placement for a very played out routine: slapstick / sex comedy involving hot women. When I made the comment, I was thinking of Lip Sync Battle in particular.

The discussion is the influence in which these two cities have on the nation - well, that's the influence that everybody perceives. It's like saying "What has a better party scene, New Orleans or Denver?" Well where are people's minds going to go?! Denver has more to offer than pot, NOLA has more to offer than booze ... but that's what's gonna dominate the discussion.
Yeah everything here is pretty true. Didn't want to come off as cranky, just giving some perspective about what it is like to live here (from an admittedly young, and *sigh* hipster-ish perspective).

Never heard of Lip Sync Battle though.

Regarding video games, since it got brought up - it is no surprise the Bay Area is a leader but LA does pretty well too. My friend works in the industry for a prominent video game console manufacturer (works on the console-specific games) and he is constantly down in LA.

If only Pasadena and Santa Monica were not on opposite sides of the planet.
