Yea,

A state capital with some degree of control over the narrow jurisdiction of a single state is going to be comparable to the federal capital with jurisdiction over the entire nation as well as a bit of influence on the rest of the world through being in charge of the entire nation's foreign policy.

Ridiculous.

Woah there kid, slow down and remember what you, not me, you said. You were going by population so Mumbai wins. And I don't know what source you are using to back up your claims, maybe it's the universal troll forum or something, I wouldn't know. Because Tokyo has a high population and GDP than New York and LA but I'm sure you knew that because of your posts. Oh wait! you clearly didn't, silly me to think a troll would take time to get facts I'm sorry, I'll let you get on with lying to us.

Of course you can argue (and some do) that it is Milwaukee based on its role in production of beer or Memphis based on the fact that it houses Graceland yet those arguments seem to be purely academic if not frivolous...

Population and gross product make LA the number two player in the US. It's very simple.
Wait, no ranking!? But your posts made it sound so much like there was because you were SO adamant about New York being number one and LA being number two but then you say there is no hardcore evidence to back it up!?

Are you so blind?
You mean the Cubs that still sellout every game of the year? What about the oldest and most storied NFL franchise in history? Or the greatest dynasty in basketball ever? But this can't be possible according to you because with all of your endless knowledge you come to this forum to argue this.

Go back to your bridge, troll.

Actually, no. But when you throw around phrases such as "it's universally agreed" I would expect that you have some kind of empirical data to support that.

Evidently not.

Obviously not. I've been to NYC dozens of times and have a lot of friends I stay with that live in the city. It's one of my favorite cities by far, right up there with Chicago, London, San Fran and Amsterdam in my mind.

I love the people of NYC. Just because you get a few pompous supporters on here who try and push their city up by pushing others down certainly says nothing of the general population. Just makes the place look bad.

In their defense, if they never leave New York, they can't be expected to know any better.

Chicago's Loop, Miracle Mile,, waterfront, Chicago River winding through downtown along with the most amazing architecture and the most impressive collection of high rises in a compact area I've ever seen makes it a competitor to anyone including NYC imho.. Manhattan to me is more spread out with a downtown core without it's main anchor and midtown core anchored by the Empire State building and Chrysler building but I don't get the same 'wow' factor in any one vantage point in NYC. Chicago forefathers did a much better job of keeping all it's waterfront from becoming too commercialized.. While LA proper may be more populous and more important than Chicago it's bland downtown core is not one of the main reasons why folks visit SoCal.

I can't show it to you since there is no a way to capture the entire New York's skyline in a single or even a few pictures as there is more than one New York skyline, but in numbers New York has fifty eight hundred highrises and there are just eleven hundred in Chicago... Chicago's skyline is five times smaller than New York's. Can you imagine a skyline five times bigger than Chicaqo's? There you go. Chicago skyline may by itself seem impressive but compared to New York skyline is simply weak.

PS. Go easy on unnecessary pathos, kid. You may have a different opnion but derogatory comments about another poster and his credibility may backfire if you are proved wrong...

Chicago now has 7 of the 16 tallest skyscrapers in the country not including two under construction.. It currently has the tallest building in the country and will be topped by the Chicago Spire in 2012 which will be the second tallest building in the world.
