We just drove over Kenosha Pass (southwest of Denver on 285) and there are many leaves at their peak. Wasn't that way when we went over the pass on Wednesday, so things are happening quickly. You may want to take that drive into the mountains this weekend.

Things are turning quickly this year. Seems like every morning there is a new big swath of yellow on Beaver Creek.

I'd say it's about par for Kenosha to peak around this time. That always goes earlier in the month.

"The trees in Rocky Mountain National Park may be as much as two weeks ahead of schedule, said park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson, who noted that wildflowers in the park also bloomed earlier this year."
The Boulder Daily Camera ran this article today with photos taken along the Peak to Peak Hwy on 9/6:
Boulder County's early display of aspen gold may be related to drought - Boulder Daily Camera
I must respectfully disagree with the expert quoted in the article who said "By the end of September and the first week of October, we'll be in full peak. It's been that way for 20 years."
Well, not this year. I'm not a forestry expert but based on 25+ years photographing aspen along the Peak to Peak I can see that we are easily 10 days ahead of "schedule" for this area. I predict there will be very few leaves left on the trees by the end of September.

As Jim already mentioned, there were noticable swaths of yellow on the Grand Mesa last weekend, and I only drove up to the Mesa Lakes area coming in from the I-70 direction. I imagine that there is quite a bit more yellow up higher. I have a feeling that the color season will be very short lived this year, so I don't want to miss out on natures color show. I may drive up again this weekend, or perhaps a drive to Crested Butte, thru the Aspen groves, over Kebler Pass is in the cards.

Sounds like a hike in Golden Gate Canyon and Peak to Peak may be in order?

Haven't been south on P2P yet so I don't know how the trees are looking in Golden Gate Canyon. The yellow aspen I've seen are around Nederland, Caribou Ranch, Brainard Lake and a bit north of Ward. I've seen a lot of change in just a few days. I think next weekend may be pretty good timing and hopefully the week after that.

Drove Peak to Peak highway today all the way through RMNP on Trail Ridge and back through US-34/US-40 to I-70

Peak to Peak is pretty underdeveloped overall, even north of Ward. Maybe 1-2 weeks?

The best colors right now were actually on the Grand Lake side of RMNP
