Glad I didn't have to be on the roads much last nite.
It was amazing how fast it accumulated last night. The ride home surely was treacherous.

We ended up with about 2 feet here in Vernon. Just dug all the cars out with some neighbors. We have piles of snow well over six feet high. I haven't ever seen anything like this.

Well, it's hard to get records on the Web for this location, but it looks like (though closer than I thought) I was right about it being the biggest ever snow in Danbury:

"BTW, I really do love winter! Bring on the cold and lots of snow! I hate cleaning off the car and driving in hazardous conditions to my job (29 miles), but otherwise I love, love, LOVE it and would never want to live in a year-round warm climate. Yuck. Snow is so beautiful, and cold air is so refreshing."

that's one thing i like about this forum - finding people who think the same way i do. at least as far as winter is concerned - not a lot of them out there..

Suddenly the population around here doesnt bother me. If we can just have these types of storms every month including July I wouldn't want to move.

After last summer being the warmest on record in CT, the past 6 weeks have been heaven for me. May - September 2010 = Hell.

P.S - Havent seen any bugs outside.

Onto the next one.(Jan.15)(Jan.19)(Jan.27) See everyone in the Weather thread. I wonder if JViello was riding his snowmobile all day.

Looks like the state record for CT one-day snowfall may have been set, assuming verification by the NWS. The OKX site notes at this link that North Haven got 30.5":

National Weather Service Text Product Display

This article says that the record is 30", set during the Blizzard of 1888 and in 1969. Ironically, it says it didn't come close, but it's wrong: Winter storm buries southern New England - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110113/ap_on_bi_ge/us_winter_weather - broken link)

Now I know that the 1888 Blizzard actually produced 4+ foot totals in CT, but I think that was spread over more than one day.

The record was broken at Bradley with this storm with 25 inches according to the news. I can say we got 24 inches here in Glastonbury as well, maybe more with the dusting that came later in the day.

That said, schools are closed for a second day. The kids are happy. DW is not.

Snow is piled high in our neighborhood. The plows came down the street in each direction but left a two foot pile in the center of the road. Very strange.

The dogs had a real blast romping in the snow. We lost our canvas gazebo under the weight of the snow. I had removed only part of the top so rest came down. Anyway there will be more clean up to do tomorrow. Hope everyone keeps warm. Jay

I know Stamford didnt break any records...The Presidents Day Storm 2006 produced 24 inches there as the storm stalled over us.. Danbury had gotten 26" that day so they topped that yesterday...

I do believe CT broke records with the fact it being a 12 hour storm.
