That’s great. That was an underutilized corner of Ninth Square. That area is really picking up. 3 other apartment buildings, the hotel, and maybe even Coliseum site.

The great news in NH and CT is like a box of tissues. They just keep coming and coming and coming.

A four story 129 unit apartment building is being proposed for the 500 Blake Street restaurant site in Westville. It’s a shame they are tearing down such charming old buildings for another ugly modern building. Will ruin the charm of the village. JMHO. Jay

It will not happen. Not now.

Everything is on hold and there will be no bank financing for any sort of “development” in the near term.

In a year or so, there might be financing for “reconstruction” though.

This is not limited to New Haven, and is not meant to pick on “New Haven” or Connecticut in general. Both however are low on the list to rebuilding as a nation...
(New Haven will surely be close to the bottom of the list when the country starts climbing out of this disaster... )

This is an unprecedented economic disaster. 9/11 and 2008 combined already pale in comparison.

Bold claim, what’s your reasoning?

My reasoning is that the entire economy is crumbling and dismantled in front of our faces.

This is like nothing anyone of us has seen before in our lifetime.
In one week flat the airline industry has come to a screeching halt, Ford, GM and Chrysler have closed all US factories, there are no more restaurants, or bars, or hair or nail salons (or employed waitresses, stylists, or bar tenders to be found) no more malls, or movies, or amusement parks, concerts, broadway shows, casinos, and on and on, the country’s largest public school system of 1.1million children is closed at this point until likely September, (along with 10s of thousands of other districts nationwide) daycare centers closed, with working parents left to decide if they continue to work (if they’re fortunate enough to have a job left) or let their children to fend for themselves alone) bHospitality and travel and cruise industries are decimated, markets down basically 10,000 points in 8 days.
This is uncharted territory none of us has ever experienced in our lifetime. I was a junior in HS during the ‘87 crash, 30 years old when 9/11happemed, and pushing 40 when the “great” recession happened. The economic across the board fallout of those 3 combined pales in comparison to what we are seeing unfold before our eyes.

It is BOLD. Have no doubt about it.

And financing an apartment complex in “New Haven” CT is the last thing any bank is going to do right now. Banks are going to be called upon to finance the rebuilding of our nation.

Ok, I don’t need a lesson on the risk to the economy. I just don’t understand why Connecticut or New Haven would fare any worse than other areas. No one knows.

Because CT’s recent history shows that it fares far worse than many parts of the country in the post-2008 world. It just very recently started to steady itself a bit a decade plus out. It’s not going to be on the top of any list when it comes to investing in rebuilding the country and infrastructure. It’s going to be a long time digging out of this mess for us. We can only hope for a steady recovery in NY, which will in turn eventually trickle down to us.
