Simple. People here drive intelligently. They don't take crap from anyone.

I agree with Stylo. The sarcasm humored me. I laughed and almost said out loud "You are off-beat" - but seriously, I am leaving New England. The COL is just too high to rationalize staying here. )

Heard New England got slammed by a huge blizzard a while ago. Which makes living in the west coast better.

The title of this thread should read: "Why would any sane person ever LIVE IN New England?"

It's changed a lot in my lifetime but I still would never live anywhere else. It's a lot more built up and places of natural beauty are gone. People rush around a lot and everybody wants to be rich. In the past it didn't seem to be so competitive. Yeh, I guess the entire country has changed though. The one major flaw is that thing called winter--that does make you think of moving away at times.

I lived in connecticut from age six to nineteen. My mom was a born and raised southerner and my father was from new york. I decided to move to the south for college, and that was the greatest thing to ever happen to me. I've been here for four years and I LOVE it. I did not enjoy living up north. I grew up in a very snotty rich town and most people were very rude to me there. I didn't like the fast paced lifestyle. I also did not enjoy the cold. The people in the south are much different. They are so polite and much more welcoming in my opinion. The south is also beautiful and the weather is great (usually). All I'm saying is that there are other places besides New England.

New England offers more than most areas of the country, and is one of the most beautiful regions. Hence the high cost of living. Demand. There are other beautiful parts of the country, but there's also large swaths that don't offer nearly as much from a scenic and (especially) culture standpoint. We also have a deep history here that's absent from many areas of the country, which is evident from Boston all the way down to the colonial villages.

Winter is my biggest complaint. It's charming and cozy for a month or 2, then it gets really old really fast.

My DH used to live in New England but now he lives in Hawaii with me. Which probably isn't as nice as New England since we don't have much winter here at all and the weather is absolutely boring with beautiful days followed by a gorgeous nights. However, since we don't live in New England, we are able to go there on vacation. Ya gotta vacation somewhere when ya live in Hawaii, so why not New England?

Beautiful days? 90 with 90 humidity is anything but ideal. Termites and roaches are also pandemic in Hawaii... Great beaches though.

Couple of the things in the OP were clearly facetious (city layouts especially, lol), but I agree with most of the rest.

I'm also down with New Eng-litism. Couldn't live anywhere else.
