No. They just need to construct a breakdown lane and or a shoulder so they can park the DOT trucks when they do work and don't have to close a lane to park their trucks.

What people fail to realize is that more lanes = more traffic, so in 2025, 3 years after the extra lanes are added, you are in the same problem then as you are now.

This is particularly important when there are accidents on I-95 or the Merritt. The ideal situation would be to complete Route 7 but since that has little support, Route 25 would be the next best option. Again this is all based on poor decisions made 40 years ago. Again, these thoughts are not "outdated". Just look at the traffic we have on Route 7 or Route 25 today. It is not getting any better. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Jay
I guess. In any event, glad I'm only 10 miles from work and don't need to get on any of these monstrocities to get there. Can't remember the last time I was even on the Merritt.

Anyone that was on the road this morning or know historical traffic trends for traveling on December 23 night, tell me if this is doable:

I'll be leaving Fairfield (exit 46 area of the Merritt) at 5:45 PM, and need to get to Windsor (exit 36 of 91) by 7 PM. I know on a regular Wednesday night that probably wouldn't be doable, but how about on a day like today where usually people have a half day/take the day off. Should I get on the Merritt at 5:15 just in case??

Boy it is a toss up. It could be heavy with people leaving early for the holiday but the weather is a bit questionable (it is foggy in greater Hartford today) so you just never know what you will hit. I would try and leave a bit early just in case. Happy holidays. Jay

Route 84 through Danbury tonight was horrific. It took me close to an hour to get through the first 5 exits.

I was on the Post Road 3 or 4 years ago when 95 was closed when a boat fell off a trailer. Took me like 70 minutes to drive about 3 miles (even less) from Bull Head Lane in West Haven/Orange (where the Arby's Verizon & VIP are located) to the Milford mall. I'm wondering if that could've been worse then that day??

The Merritt at least when I got on in Stratford (it was backed up at 46 so went the back roads to Stratford and got on by Sikorsky before the bridge) was surprisingly GREAT for the holiday + driving rain storm.

I wonder if the traffic will be worse on Christmas Eve. I highly doubt it but up in Hartford traffic wasn't too bad at all. Well...if you compare it to a typical Friday evening, it's about the same.

I think the rain scared some people away.

Also, if you play a sport, you usually have a practice in the morning, so people with kids that play winter sports (Indoor track, basketball, hockey, wrestling) can't leave until the mid morning/afternoon anyways.
