Route 7 moves just fine. 30-35 minutes from Danbury to SoNo and visa versa with great consistency. As for a Greenwich to Newtown expressway (or a third East to West) thoroughfare, there is one. I-84 with connections south via 684.

Is it really "just fine"? I live up in Hartford but I constantly hear that it's a gridlock.

I-84 is a very roundabout way to go from upstate NY (presumably Albany, Saratoga, Plattsburgh..) to northern New England! Why wouldn't they use US-4, VT-9, MA-2, US-20 or I-90? I-84 ends at I-90 anyway.

My family is split between upstate NY and northern New England and none of them would ever consider using I-84 to travel between those regions.

When I'm back home I'll pull screen grabs of rush hour traffic on Google Maps. No. Red. At. All. Predominately green.

Edit: Apparently I can do this from my phone. 8:10am on a Monday AM and Friday at 5:30pm follow:

It's not even a contest.... Surprised to see SB Route 7 a bit more congested on Friday PM relative to NB.

Green on route 7 is still slow travel due to the low speed limits and lights.

If by slow you mean 45 mph, okay. That's about my average for the stretch from Danbury to SoNo.

That's pretty cool. I wonder what the local roads look like on Google Maps on Friday during rush hour. I presume they're red. I'm not surprised with the Merritt but I am shocked at how green Route 7 looks compared to highways going west to east...but like what someone mentioned earlier, traffic comes from NYC.

25, 7 & 34....the biggest PITA road in this part of the state. I'll still never understand how Danbury doesn't have any real highways connecting to Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport & New Haven, it completely blows my mind.

There are two highway portions that are 55 mph and most of 7 is 45mph. I think the bigger issue is your flip flop. First you were upset by how slow and aggrevating Route 7 is, now you've reversed your position and are arguing the road moves too fast? What gives?
