Fairfield is just as wealthy as Wilton, or Easton. And overall wealthier than Norwalk/Stamford. And it's part of that contiguous area. Not sure why this is a debate.

I got another email from the wonderful people at CERC. They gave me the complete list of where Danbury residents work. Here it is:

Danbury town (Fairfield, CT) 11,541 34.3%
Bethel town (Fairfield, CT) 1,626 4.8%
Ridgefield town (Fairfield, CT) 1,587 4.7%
Brookfield town (Fairfield, CT) 1,305 3.9%
Stamford town (Fairfield, CT) 1,217 3.6%
Norwalk town (Fairfield, CT) 916 2.7%
Newtown town (Fairfield, CT) 767 2.3%
New Milford town (Litchfield, CT) 640 1.9%
Southeast town (Putnam, NY) 622 1.8%
Wilton town (Fairfield, CT) 593 1.8%
Manhattan borough (New York, NY) 577 1.7%
Greenwich town (Fairfield, CT) 427 1.3%
Bridgeport town (Fairfield, CT) 397 1.2%
Hartford town (Hartford, CT) 377 1.1%
Shelton town (Fairfield, CT) 369 1.1%
Waterbury town (New Haven, CT) 325 1.0%
Fairfield town (Fairfield, CT) 310 0.9%
Southbury town (New Haven, CT) 301 0.9%
Milford town (New Haven, CT) 268 0.8%
New Haven town (New Haven, CT) 264 0.8%
Trumbull town (Fairfield, CT) 261 0.8%
Mount Pleasant town (Westchester, NY) 259 0.8%
Westport town (Fairfield, CT) 257 0.8%
Harrison town (Westchester, NY) 213 0.6%
White Plains city (Westchester, NY) 195 0.6%
All Other Locations 8,011 23.8%

As you can see, only 195 residents work in White Plains but there are other New York towns listed including 577 residents that work in Manhattan. This data is from 2015 so it is pretty recent. Hope this clears up people's questions. Jay

Thanks for posting.! I’m really amazed that so few in WP. Also wonder about the 23% who work some place “other” than listed but I understand it would be too much effort to break it down by every location if just a handful work there. But 23% unaccounted for seems high, no?

I'm wondering why FFC seems to be contentious in regards to its "cultural region". Is it because wealthier folks are more concerned about their status or what "group" they might fall into? Or is it that here on CD it's most FFC folks?

Not trying to be offensive, just genuinely curious.

60 miles on I-84. Brutal! I guess you could CT FastTrack in from Waterbury but it's still 30 miles of driving with all that ancient 2 lane highway.

In my view, having been a resident of New Haven County, New London County, and Windham County, the cultural lines in FFC are important because they distinguish where NYC influence is strongest vs New England. You will find towns in FFC that have all the quaint trappings of their colonial history and yet are populated to a large extent by people who spend the majority of their time in NYC. To some of those folks, Connecticut is just a place where they sleep and their kids go to school. When you get further away from NY, attitudes and dispositions are more relaxed, and people associate more with the traditions/customs of New England.

Part of it is the need for status. Whether it's association or disassociation with the elite.

I still wonder how accurate the data is. It seems unlikely to me that more people work in New Haven, Mount Pleasant, Harrison. Maybe the white collar White Plains workers are more likely to live in Danbury suburbs?

If accurate, Manhattan at 577 people certainly refutes another poster that said over half Danbury residents work in NYC.

Yes, the New Haven number surprised me too, and for the same reason (more to NH than to WP?...). I do think there are some kinks to be worked out on some of the town profiles before the data is at a point where it can be relied upon.
P.S. no way 1/2 of Danbury workers commute to the city -- not even close lol. On another note, I was surprised by how few from Ridgefield supposedly do -- 212 seems awfully low IMO...
