I know I'm really reaching here, but apparently the Buffalo Bills are unhappy with their stadium and are threatening to move to Austin, Texas. We made a play for the New England Patriots once. I think the Bills, which are significantly less popular than the Patriots would be an easier team to snatch up. I think CT should make a serious attempt to land the Bills. What do you guys think? If the Bills said they'll move to Hartford if we foot the bill for a new stadium for them, should we do it?

What!?! I used to be a bills fan in the early 90's. Jim Kelly is the reason why I haven't bet on sports since.

having read the article let me just say a few basic things.

1) There's is no way that they could get the general public to approve over a billion dollars to be given to create a stadium. No way. No how. If people don't want to go to sporting games, if players aren't even required to live in the state then what's the real point other than having something on tv ?

2) It would be pretty hard to not bump heads with Bob Kraft on this one and what's in a name. Some leagues have restrictions on distance for having new teams. Bob Kraft might argue that New England covers all of new england so you can't have another team. It's not like the Boston teams that actually say boston in them. Same with professional soccer. New England revolution.

3) CT and local governments CANNOT afford this either.I'm sorry but there's much more in the way of priorities. Unless somehow you get the tribes to pay for it I can't see the validation for a increase in taxes for a stadium.

But...

If there was one place in the state that might be able to do this it might be the Yale Bowl. It's about 10K less in what they have though. Now here's the funny thing. They DID have the NY Giants there for a year in the 1970s.

I'd argue the city of new haven should negotiate a new pilot to invest more into the stadium and try to coordinate scheduling for the team. You can't have a totally new stadium that's just not going to happen with the current market anyway. But this is already built, it needs some work. I'd argue adding another 10K of seats might be possible with the right investment.

Yale Bowl is historic, no way they'd mess with it. Also parking would be a big issue. Yale would never go for it. Why would they?

No way the Pats, Jets and Giants would ever let this happen.

Non-starter. CT has no say. NFL would never approve a 4th team in such close proximity

Football would add NOTHING to our area. 8 or 9 home games a year. That’s it. If you multi-purpose the stadium for some concerts you just take away from Infinity or Mohegan or Foxwoods so it’s not actually net adding anything.

CT already has fan bases of NY or Boston. We don’t have a transient population. Aside from a casual fan, we would never have too many die hard fans. Could we sellout 8 home games? Sure, but not worth a $1B tax funded stadium. It was hard enough getting $50M Yard Goats done. Remember 2017, they had to play ALL games on the road?

It’s absurd that teams demand tax payer money for stadiums then every 20 years want a new one. But hey, they have ALL the leverage. Austin would love to scoop up a team.

Probably very unlikely it happens. But I am a huge Bills fan and would be ecstatic to see this happen.
