A couple of photos I took today with my cellphone.

The Stamford Hospital expansion highrise looks very nice. They seem to be working on the inside.

The pink (yes, pink!) house with a chinese restaurant at its base that was near the corner of Stillwater Ave and Merrill Ave has been razed. I remember seeing a residential project that was going to be built there, but I'm not sure if that's still in the plans. Anyway, I'm glad that house was destroyed, it simply looked wrong for Stamford and Connecticut.

Stamford does'nt like the poor

STAMFORD — The partnership creating apartments on Morgan Street has paid the city more than $3.2 million to avoid building required affordable housing. The Planning Board on Tuesday discussed the payment made by the developers of Element One, a five-story building behind the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, or “fish church.”
The owners of the Element One building now under construction on the Morgan Street property, formerly owned by the church, paid the fee to get a waiver from the requirement that developers of market-rate housing set aside a certain percentage of units for affordable housing.
The funds will be put toward construction of the next phase of the Metro Green project near the train station.
Element One, which is scheduled to open next spring, will feature 175 apartment homes with lofts on the top floor. Rents are projected to start at $2,300 for one-bedroom and $3,100 for two-bedroom apartments.

Look, part of what you're paying for is your neighbors (figuratively speaking). I am not sure how much of a market exists in Stamford for paying $2,300 per month for a one-bedroom with the knowledge that your next-door neighbor will be paying a fraction of such amount.

this isnt really anything surprising, they "cleaned" up the area by stamford hospital and transformed a lot of the south section of stamford giving way to new development and apartment buildings and in doing so displaced a lot of poor minorities which im sure have now had to move further up the line into bridgeport.

which just shows how Stamford is now catering toward the wealthy, the good is that they are bringing a lot of restaurants in, the bad is that stamford is losing its identity while becoming more of a mini manhattan.
