Yesterday I noticed that a new Del Frisco Grille restaurant occupy the commercial space of Landmark Square at the intersection of Atlantic Street and Broad Street in downtown. It seems to be nicely filled with people. I might go there this weekend to give it a try, since I never heard of this chain.

It's nice to see that commercial space dedicated to something. It remained vacant for a very long time, despite its central location.

It's still a mystery to me why the restaurant space at the foot of Trump Parc is still vacant. Unbelievable!

That means it will need to pass through Darien. Good luck with that!

I do agree a monorail loop connecting downtown with other major areas of the city ( South End - Shippan - East Side - Glenbrook - Springdale - Turn of River - Bulls Head - Downtown - West Side- South End) would be a great addition, especially if many of the monorail stations include public parking space/garages. I think it could even help reduce vehicular traffic, if done right.

It could be like the new Sao Paulo monorail in Brazil, perhaps with less bulky/smaller stations.

Looks like they are going to try and get a home improvement store approved over on the West Side on a site that Home Depot was interested in 10 years ago. Jay

Big box store plans back in play on Stamford

The stretch of route 1 in front of that parcel is adequately designed for the extra traffic, but the same can't be said once route 1 reaches the top of Richmond Hill and it stays rather subpar until route 1 goes off Richmond Hill and becomes Tresser Blvd. The city is going to have to do something about that, perhaps prohibit curb side parking in that stretch in order to expand the road to 4 lanes (2 in each direction) without having to physically expand the road. The intersection with Stillwater Rd might be somewhat problematic even for that improvement scenario. The traffic jams that forms along that route during rush hour are legendary. I hope the city government will not let it get worse.

That's probably what needs to be done. Tresser has 3 lanes in each direction without curbside parking.

I wonder if curbside parking on Route 1 between West Ave and Greenwich Ave would just get replaced by sidewalk parking.

All the shots are from west looking east along West Main Street.

In this first image is visible how there's no parallel parking in the stretch where the entrance to the proposed home improvement store will be (possibly on the left side in the open space.

The following image is from the western edge of Richmond Hill, where route 1 climbs the hill and 'loses' its lanes along the edges due to parallel parking.

In this image route 1 is descending the hill and about to become Tresser Blvd. Here we can see that if parallel parking would be eliminated, two new lanes can be added to the traffic flow in each direction. To make traffic flow smoothly during rush hour, the city can install an eletric sign overhead that during certain times of the day (presumably when traffic is at its highest) turning left on the intersections along this stretch would be prohibited. There's one of these electric signs on Strawberry Hill Rd.

This is the sign in Strawberry Hill Road, past the medical center on the following T intersection. In the photo the sign is off, but a certain times during the day it turns on and says 'No Left Turn.'

Lastly, this is right before West Main St becomes Tresser Blvd and its very clear how route 1 regains new lanes due to the elimination of parallel parking.
