Ridge in the East is due to the Block in Europe and North Atlantic.

Also, the drought in the southern Plains seems to be connected to the warmth rebuilding quickly or a contributing factor. The warmth immediately gets shunted off to the north and east. The 12Z GFS model showed the 570 thickness line all the way north in Kansas 16 days out. This is definitely a blowtorch La Nina pattern which is a bit surprising considering it is a weak to moderate cold event in the Pacific with a basin average of -1.0C below average SSTs.

It's almost scary if you think about it...Even though last year the cold started mid-late November it broke down in February.. Then came back for March and April.

So does this ridge / warmth we're having now mean a cold Dec. Jan. February? There's soooooo many other factors in play that it keeps things interesting for all of us... We can only speculate. One day someone will figure it out.

Current Temps: Mid 60s most of CT...Upper 60s south of us but feeling like 70 in the sun.

BRIDGEPORT CT record high is 68 in 1959. Hmmm gonna get close again!

It might end up being a snowy November after all. Maybe a White Turkey Day. Still waiting on consistancy in what Im seeing.

Wouldnt that be funny... Snow on Halloween. Snow on Thanksgiving. Snow on Christmas? Snow on New Years Day. Snow on Valentines Day? We would call it the Winter of Holiday Snows. lol

November 15, 2011 Storm Update

Well this was a surprise this morning.. Not rare for November but it was supposed to be a quick rain shot and out tomorrow.

Latest has enough moisture lingering after the cold front passes Wednesday for it to snow Thursday evening and night.

You can see these 4 frames as the rain/snow line pushes through.

Nothing to be concerned about.

Edit: The Light snows will be confined to Litchfield, Hartford, Northern Fairfield, and Tolland.

Quick Break then Wednesday/Thursday a bigger system comes from the south giving us more rain

Warm up again for week after that weekend

Rain around the 20th

Bigger system on the 22nd which will have to be watched...Right now showing cold enough for some snow. (still waay too early)

Notice the trends? Quick cool down, Warm up, active pattern like I said after mid month.
It's in the Euro range now and looks like Euro wants a system off the NJ coast...Here's the snowfall based on the last run for November 22nd.

The legend is in liquid form. So northern CT would mean 6-10" of snow here for next week. Lets see if models continue to show this..

Default November 22, 2011 Storm

Looks like HPC is onto it too now. See that Low Pressure off the coast..I know thats a nightmare to see for some...

But this time instead of coming from south up the coast its coming from Tenessee River Valley and out...less moisture. We'll have to keep an eye on those temps.

Default Storm Updates

Nov. 17, 2011
Dont be surprised if you see some snow showers. Nothing to be concerned about. Should get windy as the High Pressure moves in against the Low Pressure.

Weekend
Dry but chilly. mid 50s for High. Low 40s for Low.

Thanksgiving Day
If you're travelling keep an eye on the weather...Looks to be a wet week with Wednesday evening/night looking interesting and maybe messy. Blue indicates where snow would fall based on the last model.

Its still early but I would leave early Wednesday and come back Friday because Im seeing a Blizzard in places like Great Lakes, Ohio, upstate NY, VT, ect. Weekend will be tough to come back if you're in those areas.

Is It Time to Name Blizzards, Nor'easters? (http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/57596/is_it_time_to_name_blizzards_n_1.asp - broken link)

I think a bit over the top though their rationale is well meaning. I did notice on the Buffalo NWS site they do name lake effect storms though.

UGH. I love snow, however I have to travel on either Thursday night or Friday morning to upstate NY. I am hoping if any snow is realized, it will happen earlier than the holiday!
