I really don't get this. The woman was a nuclear research scientist with a lot of firearms training and had a special bag to carry it in. So how can this be explained with the usual excuses. She apparently did everything right. How was the kid able to shoot the gun if she was so into safety? There is simply no way to rationalize it other than the fact that it would not have happened had there not been a gun--period.
"It's unclear what sort of gun was used or what exactly happened, though police said safety measures were followed."

Are you asking more of the gun owner than every other person?
Kids climb into cars and drive them away getting into accidents.
Kids, drink drano and other household products that are poison so often it s a leading cause of their deaths.
Falling down drinks figure out not only where they put their car keys, but manage to get them out of their pockets, start the car and drive miles and miles before killing an innocent family. Some of those drunks are well educated, highly respected in their communities and have very good jobs.
How often do those stories make the national news?

No, she did not. She left her purse where her 2 year old could get into it.
.
Now the child will grow up, and have to deal with
the knowledge for the rest of his life, that he shot and kill his own mother.
.
I agree this might be the biggest tragedy of all.

But he WILL know that he killed his own mother - even if he does not remember her as a person. That's a lot to carry around during your formative years.
I understand that she's dead but her family defending her saying "she's not irresponsible" is like a toddler does something wrong and tries to defend it. If it is not irresponsible what is?
How many people in the USA are killed by children each year?
Go ahead and run that search. Try Google.
Now tell me that unless it involves a gun, the info is practically buried.
Why is that? It isn't the search criteria, run that search yourself and read the results Almost all of the results are about school shootings or other gun violence.
This was the only time in the past year a child killed an adult? When was the last time you saw it pasted all over the media going on two days?
