Could it be that the doctor thought his own feelings about gay people would be distracting to him, affecting his competence, and he wanted the baby to have the most competent possible care?

I remember a TV show a long time ago where a woman doctor got raped and then some random time later by coincidence the rapist was in the ER needing emergency surgery and the woman doctor had to decide whether to do the surgery or not. One factor was that if the patient died the doctor might be accused of ulterior motives.

LOL!

We have a female couple in our church who had a baby boy in the fall. He served as our Baby Jesus in the kids' Christmas pageant. He was much better-looking than the old plastic doll we had to use last year.

The roof didn't fall in and no one got struck by lightning. There were no locust or frog plagues, either.

What is not being considered, is the Doctor may have felt due to her personal beliefs she may not be a good doctor to be keeping this baby healthy. Kind of like a doctor not really being the one that you went to as you felt they should take care of you, sending/referring you to another doctor. I have been sent to specialists many time, when my doctor was not the best doctor for my problems.

Thirty nine years ago, I was ill and they were not finding what was wrong with me, going down hill every day.

One day I woke up with an infected tooth and went to a dentist. Said it needed to be pulled but he did not feel qualified to pull it, and I went to another dentist in the same group of medical buildings. He told me the same thing. I asked who to see and was told there was only one oral surgeon he would be qualified to do it. We are talking about the Silicon Valley. I went to the oral surgeons office, and he was out to lunch but the assistants took xrays, etc. I waited and in walked my minister in a suit and I will never forget our first conversation. He said, "Now we know why you are almost dead". I looked at him and said, "I am so bad, they had to call you". I was really scared. He started laughing and said, I am the oral surgeon. This is my real professional job." He found I had infections in the teeth, and had to pulled 22 at that time. As soon as I had healed enough I got false teeth. The oral surgeon told me, that another 6 weeks the way I was going down hill I would have been dead.

I had two dentists, that did not feel qualified to give me care and referred me.

I feel that there is more to the story than the article. I think that any doctor that feels for any reason that they would not be the best one to take care of a patient and does not refer the patient to another doctor, is a quack.

If a doctor feels for any reason their judgement may be impaired, they should refer the patient to another doctor. If a doctor's feels their personal beliefs may keep them from giving a patient such as this baby their best attention for any reason, it is their duty to refer the patient to another doctor.

As the headline says, there is nothing illegal about it. But the headline implies there ought to be. I disagree because this was not an emergency case. In the ER all restrictions are off - rich, poor, gay, child molester, cop, Martian, whatever; treat them all.
This is a private business and they are allowed to deny service to anyone for any reason.

I'll grant you, my knowledge of the bible is likely far smaller than yours, but I just do not recall any thou shalt nots about this..... unlike the thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, etc. etc.
Since this was "well baby care" and elective one could use the 'do not be unequally yoked" verse or the "have nothing to do with" verse. Lot's of scripture to avoid helping these so-called parents pretend to be the parents of this baby.

A "female couple" cannot have a baby. One of them had to have the help of a man. Since no Christian church would have such members, what religion are you and as non-Christians why would you have a baby Jesus and a Christmas pageant?

.

This baby was not her patient, the Doctor had never even seen the baby before except briefly informally when the Couple dropped by her office and she fit her in for a quick hello. Met her briefly and a visit was scheduled

Baby was referred out immediately so a different doctor walked into the room

A collegue of hers maybe? But instead of just denying the visit when they arrived, she arranged care instead.

Something she didn't need to do but was a nice gesture since she wasn't planning on accepting baby as her patient

How much money they made off of the interviews of this "set up" witch hunt is yet to be determined.

It's so sad but I am sure they are raking in the dough with all of this publicity and interviews

So true.

I think many don't understand how private practices work. The word PRIVATE versus PUBLIC

They are comparing it to...lets say a hospital or the Indian Health Clinic

A public health clinic which is contracted to serve the Public (indians, specifically)

Or a hospital
