Here's an excerpt from the 20/20 episode about Cecil:

From 7:15: Brent Stapelkamp, head of the Hwange Lion research team, explains why he thinks data from Cecil's GPS collar points to a cover-up. After Cecil's death, the collar was suspiciously moved from location to location in an attempt to mislead, claims Stapelkamp. The collar was then destroyed. It was never found. Of course we know that Palmer's hunting guide, Theo Bronkhorst, told a different story of events. Interesting stuff.

I do agree it was wrong insomuch that the lion was on a preserve, a place made specifically for nature to be nature without human intervention. Yes, the lion should have been left alone. I AGREE with the responsible preservation of nature in such ways.

Still, the level of outrage over this is comical. Please. It's a lion, not a child. To be THIS outraged over what is ultimately an animal is ridiculous. Frankly, I see it as a sign that morality in this country is shot all to hades, right up there with gay marriage and people making babies out of wedlock and abandoning their children and their mother or father. When we can't have the moral realization that human life is 13,328,092 times more sacred than animal life, we're no better than Sodom or Gomorrah ever were.
45,000 lions in the world and population is declining
7 billion homo sapiens in the world and increasing

What species needs to have population control put into place?:t hink:

Thanks for posting. It's heartbreaking to watch when the woman talked about Cecil being skinned and all.

Why is it "heartbreaking"? That's what is commonly done with dead animals. They skin them. Would it have been better if they threw it in the trash? Tell me, if you bought a car with leather interior, or a leather couch. Would you be just as "heartbroken" for the cows that were slaughtered and skinned to make it?

yeah...it would have been even happier still if they not only didn't skin him, but left him alone to live out his life with his pride....

Disgusting inadequate rich dentist trying to upgrade his D*&k size by bribing a bunch of third world idiots and killing an animal with a bow....so that he can feel more like a man. How pathetic and pathological can you get?

The hunting guide said Palmer was "devastated" after discovering this lion was collared, and possibly Cecil. Yet Palmer still wanted Cecil's head & skin as trophies. He probably did his usual grinning photo-ops beside the body too. If Palmer was so "devastated", he should have left Cecil intact, and promptly reported the mishap. Thankfully Brent Stapelkamp, head of Hwange Lion Research, absolutely doesn't believe their story. He has some evidence against them.

Problem is, he failed to kill Cecil with a bow/crossbow. He only wounded him, and it took 40 hours to track him down and finally put him out of his misery with a firearm. Makes the whole incident even worse IMO.
